good SKS stocks??

broke the stock on one of my sks' (the chu wood)
looking to get a new synthetic type one
seems that the ATI folding stocks are prevalent, is it really worth it? I'm under the impression that the folding butt, just gives the rifle a huge weak point.
what other aftermarket stocks are out there that y'all enjoy and recommend?
 
i have a ati strikeforce, with a folding stock, i really like it, pretty cool, a little heavy i guess, not a big deal to me, i put a folding foregrip on it as well, the adjustable stock is great, especially since i find my stock russian way too short, hardly ever fold the stock, now and again for giggles its fun to fire folded, but not really very useful of a feature in my opinion, had no issues with it fitting with a chinese model, there is alot available out there though, wish i could give you more info about that but the ati is all i currently have, although i am a huge sks fan and would like to experiment with more in time, there is a great thread right now with pics of some beautiful stuff

I have three sks rifles, two are standard and one has a plastic folding stock. I hate the $hitty look of the plastic stock but it is practical as it makes the rifle much more portable and the stock unfolds in a second.
 
I have an ATI folder, its never folded, it folds to the wrong side, so you cant really hip fire it when folded, when unfolded, its a nice tight fit, BUT, the butt stock itself is a lose fit, I wont buy another, I am just going to go with the ATI Monte Carlo stocks for my next SKS's. (I hate the wood, heavy as #### and tiny length of pull)
 
Personally I would get in touch with Dave at hical they've got everything for aftermarket sks mods! Really nice guy and great shop. I'm sure he can steer you in the right direction, check out their site... Lots of builds on there.
 
The best stock for the SKS is the one it came with. Add a recoil pad for longer length of pull.

I personally don't like any of the aftermarket stocks for the SKS. If I had to pick one to replace my original because I broke it, Id replace it with the ATI Monte Carlo Stock or a Tapco Timbersmith SKS stock. Just because I don't like any of the aftermarket stocks doesn't mean you won't like them too.

I agree, why not just get another Chinese wood stock to replace it...
 
I put an ATI Monty Carlo on mine and it fits me just right. At one time I would never have considered a plastic stock but they do have some advantages. Besides the comfort I like the fact that they don't need to be "babied", weather conditions or rough use won't have much effect on them. I certainly would not put plastic on a high end rifle but I think they are great for a "go-to" milsurp.
 
have tried many sks with many stocks
ati monte - heavy, thick in pg area, felt/look bad, ok at best
ati dragunov - heavy, felt/look good, have to take trigger off to disassemble for cleaning (good for whannabe sniper)
ati folder (to right) - light, slim when folded, felt/look good, not rock solid (put bolt through to make solid)
ati strike force - felt/look ok/good, folds to the WRONG side, adj stock
tapco intrafuse - preffer look/feel over strikeforce, little heavy, nice pg feel, adj stock, railed gas cover useless
red fiberglass - same as original, light, hard to find, not good quality
1" ext. pad - BEST BUY, hard to find screw on(NOT slip on) with access to cleaning kit (and star) looks/feels great + original
ramline monte - light, feels/looks good, storage in stock, will not sell this great stock
have yet to try
choate dragunov - would try if wanted to go the dragunov route again
choate or butler creek monte - if anything like ramline monte worth consideration (though NOT the ati monte!)
timbersmith monte - heard it's heavy, but looks/feels great (will try)
ati archangel - see a problem with disassembly for cleaning same as the ati dragunov (might try)
 
I have been trying to decide myself this very question. I put an ATI strike force on my brother in-laws and I must say I was impressed and it is whooing me away from tapco. I'm holding off though to see what the archangel are like.

I think I will probably just go for another wooden stock and get a pad to extend the length of pull.
although those timber smith stocks do look nice, but it does seem a bit pointless for me, id just scratch it.
