Info on Kel-Tec SU-16fx

iirc, the 556 marking on the american rifles was also an export hurdle. I'm not 100% on that one, might of just been a cgn rumour.

Huh? What's your point?
Someone asked if he could import the firearm we are talking about in this thread (su16fx)
You just said he could import one but it would be restricted because it has a 16 inch barrel. And I was letting you know that there is no 16 inch version...

Mg4201, I owe you an apology as I gave you an incorrect answer. I followed the SU16 coming into Canada, as I really wanted one at the time.
So I feel bad for not remembering correctly, that some US models have an 18.5" barrel, and would be non-restricted in Canada based on that.

After checking some old threads, I found this that was posted on Vault's website a while back.

Well.. after many months of waiting, as of today Vault received word from the CFR that the SU16F {The Canadian version of The American SU 16A} has been approved with a Non Restricted classification. The SU16F is also the only model of the SU 16 family to be approved by the US Department Of State for export to the Canadian market. We have been in contact with Kel-Tec to advise them of this great news, and have discussed manufacturing plans for the SU16F. We will know in the next few days when the first 50 will be produced for Vault, and we will let you all know when we know.

We assumed back then that the US wouldn't export the SU16A due to the 556 markings & chambering.

Wanstall's lengthy thread here has such details:

No where did I mention 16" although they do offer them.

You said us restricted model. Which is 16 inches. And once again the su16fx is made for canada only. Please show me where I can get a 16 inch version of a firearm that was made for canada with an 18.5 inch barrel only

You can get an su16a which is the american version. Not The one we are talking about

The SU16ca, and put the ar style stock & compact handguard on it?

See edited post above that I didn't edit fast enough.

lone wolf don't worry about it. more importantly can we get someone else to bring the su-16f in or are we still at the same place we were before trapped by the vault?

SU-16F all for under $1k, I'll put more shots up once I have the rail covers on. I've also removed the front post and the crappy rear peep-sight, gonna add a BUS system with my Strikefire now that I essentially have a monolithic rail. Gonna CCT the barrel and throw an AR flash suppressor on. Throw a rubber sleeve on the pistol grip and eventually I'll replace the butt-stock because the pad is too small to rest in my shoulder properly. So far it's a good little rifle.

I originally purchased the rifle from Frontier Firearms for around $700, for an additional $270 something you have the above pictured including rail covers not seen in the pic.

I think someone said this before would it be possible for IRUNGUNS or someone to bring the su16 in cheaper? I don't know how that process works ,

What rail system is that?

I highly doubt that KelTec is paying full retail for the stock kits that some of you are posting as a comparison.

That eotech clone is basically worthless.

This is an over-priced product that Vault will sell out almost immediately.

Whats your point? nobody said they were, people are simply comparing what it costs for an individual to buy a regular su-16 and upgrade the pistol grip Vs. the cost of the su-16fx.

People are comparing retail prices because...well...thats what it costs people.

What rail system is that?

It's the Tufforce quad rail for FN FAL, got it from Amazon. A bit of dremel work to get it to fit but it worked out great, there are plenty of posts instructing how to mod it.

Here's the newest pic as it currently looks. As mentioned I'll be CCT'ing the barrel and adding BUS's and a new butt-stock later.

I just don't get the interest. Its at least the cost of a decent AR. Quite a few are at a grand give or take a couple bucks. And some of those are damn nice rifles.

I know, its non restricted, and takes STANAG mags, which I really get, but even then, wow...

You could give me an AR for free and I would say, what good is a rifle I can't take out and shoot??
I have an RPAL, but I don't own any restricteds anymore, cause I can't go shoot them whenever I feel like it and I can't hunt with them.

If We didn't have these silly regulations, the popularity of the su16 would be near nil.

The fact that its non-restricted adds a lot more value then you may think. I can have a black rifle that takes AR mags, not have to deal with restricted status bull####, AND not spend more money than on an AR??

Its a no brainer really.

$800 old rifle + pistol grip $130 + sight/new mag. $999.00 on sale for $949.00

Wow my guess will be way off if it's $1250
I know it costs money to have a Canadian model, but keltec is selling vault these and I don't think they are paying retail prices. Like I said, anything under $950 is ok, but $1250+! Vault you greedy greedy monopoly controlling company!!

So, they were on sale today in Calgary for $1189. Most sold before they got to the shelf... people were calling in and placing holds with their credit cards. Not that a batch of 10 rifles will give us a clear indication of their eventual popularity I suppose.

Picked up the su-16 fx on Thursday. First impression, yes it's light and plastic and you will take the trace optic sight off it instantly.(bad glare, doesn't sight in worth a damn)

BUT, I love this rifle! For an AR style, that takes 10 round mags, non restricted it's the best for what it is. Out of all my rifles, this is the most fun, easy to shoot and just feels good! Looks awesome too!

Went straight from the dealer to the range with 200+ rounds of federal 55 grain brass ammo. Fired off all rounds in 30-45 minutes, no jams, feeding or ejection issues! The factory tangodown mag is tight fitting. But the lar15 mags are the best idea anyway.

To get to the point, I'm going to buy a second one. I love it that much, even my wife liked shooting it, and now she wants one.
