Hi,

I am starting to look for next hunting season as this year a hunted small game (grouse) and catched only one (Bad year in North Bay area it seems for grouse). Next year i would like to hunt deer and maybe bigger games. I looked for a rifle that is accured, reliable, tough and versatile in sens of possible hunting game, so i have this rifle for a long time, without any major issue with it. I dont expect to change or get a new expensive gun after this. I already own a Ruger 10/22 ATI "Strike Force" side folding and telescoping stock & a Remington Model 870 Express Tactical Magpul. I dont want to own more than 3 gun, maybe 4 if i am looking for a dual .410/.22 savage model 42. for me those would be a good combo of gun for various type of hunt. that the reason i wanted since the start a .22, 12 Gauge, and a .308.

That why i am looking for a Springfield M1A Loaded that know some people own one and that it is considered as a very reliable weapon. i DONT WANT A CHINESE COPY. i saw one and i finded the stock very cheap, like toy plastic.

I would prefer a composite stock however i heard at least once that this was an issue with the heat when some shooted a lot. But this was in a US forum, as i will not use it for shooting like in a fight.

My other option would a Remington 700, but i would prefer the Springfield. I dont know what are the EXACT difference between the models except the price and some obvious feature.

What are you though and have you any advice?

Irunguns.ca sells them for $2200. The NM is $200 more and has a bedded stock. Note that this rifle isn't as accurate as a bolt gun but I'm sure it'll make a good dear gun.

What is the main difference between the various model of Springfield?
And would use this rifle as a hunting rifle and is that is tough to go in the wood in dirt?

Also, is there anyone that expect to sell one anytime in the next 6 month?

The NM M1A is an awsome shooter but the Socoms are a lot better than the previous chinese copys, it would serve you well... JP.

Cheap toy plastic???? Did you pick one up? There's more than a few reasons to have issues with an M-305. Cheap toy feel isn't one of them.

Might want to post this in Battle Rifles. Better still do a search, you'll have plenty to read.

I had a NORINCO copy in my hand last summer. I cant really tell about the barrel and mechanics, but the stock was very cheap and very toys. Most people seems to buy this and just install a better stock on it. As the accurency and reliablity i dont know, but i would prefer an original than a copy. There thing you buy cheap quality and there others you dont. I dont want to have to change a gun after five years because of issues due to quality controle. I did the same with my Pick Up (Tacoma) and others long terme use object i buy.

SOCOM would not fit my need for hunting, nor i dont say it is innacurate, but i would prefere longer barrel than this model. Also as i remeber it is a restricted, therefore cant hunt with it.

This rifle will be also for keep my shooter profeciency, DND dont really give us training anymore depend were your based. my .22 is good, but not a long distance +100m.

I except also to get a "sub caliber" i think .32 into a .308 so i can hunt small game with the same rifle. i saw some hunter using this on a 30 06.

I dont want to own 10 guns. 3 or maybe 4 that it. Quality, reliablily and versatility over quantity.

Pascal,
The NOrinco SOCOM is about 500$
Worth the money with many improvement over previous norinco
If you really want Springfield, get the Loaded over the standard but remember that the Loaded barrel profile limits aftermarket stock options.

Ask your question is main battle rifle forum, younwill have a lot more advices

"...looking for a dual .410/.22 savage..." A .410 is an expert's gun. Shot patterns are very small and it'll just frustrate you. Think 12 or 20 guage.
An M1A is going to run you a bit over 2 grand, if you can find one. They're a lot of money for a shop to have sitting on the shelf.
"...the stock very cheap, like toy..." Synthetic stocks are like that. Toy plastic they aren't though. They can get pricey too.
"...accuracy and reliablity I dont know..." Good enough for hunting. You may want to re-think an M1A or a copy as scoping 'em a can get pricey.

If you've got the 2 grand or more to spend plus money for a good piece of glass then do it. But there have been many stories on here where guys have taken their $500 Chinese copy put money into it, got a nice piece of glass, and had it shooting just as good as a SA for several hundred dollars less (that's assuming you don't have to do any work on a SA).

SAI is not original either, all M1A rifles are copies. All real M14 rifles are prohib because they are converted autos. The closest you can get to the real thing is an LRB arms. If you want the best and you have the cash Springfield Inc is not it, they have their own qc issues and parts manufactured in Taiwan and elsewhere and charge the same money for it. Take a serious look at the LRB M25, especially if you are planning to scope it. You can have it brought in from the states.

I have owned several SA Inc rifles including an NM (old one with all usgi parts) over the last 15 years and nowadays they are just not what they used to be parts wise since they ran out of usgi parts along time ago. What they do now is deceivingly mark their parts with the original drawing numbers. If you do a search in the BR forum I have a long post there that explains how to tell real usgi parts on your rifle from SA Inc reproductions.
If I ever buy another M1A it will be LRB, its just a higher grade rifle for similar money.
