Anyone know if or how much the boyds walnut stock out weighs the synthetic OEM norinco stock
Looking to build up an m14 but really don't want it to get that much heavier

I weighed a M14 shorty in a Boyds stock with a GI butt plate and it was 10 ounces lighter that the CANAM SOCOM in the Norinco plastic synthetic stock, so going to a Boyds stock with a GI butt plate it would save you 9 ounces on the overall weight (The SOCOM weighs one ounce more than the shorty, the GI butt plate is lighter than the Norinco butt plate, because it is partly made of Aluminum, were as the Norinco is all steel). I expect a lot of people will be buying the Boyds stock now, since the limit to export to Canada has been raised to $500 in the case of Boyds, were as until recently is was $100 which made it not possible to buy these M1A stocks unless they were unfinished or on sale) The weight will vary slightly because of the wood moisture content etc. The Shorty weighted 138 ounces (8lbs 10 ounces) and the SOCOM weighted 148 ounces (9 lbs 4 ounces). I think the Norinco M14's weigh more than the Springfield M1A's

"...the limit to export to Canada has been raised to $500..." Irrelevant if the box it gets shipped in and the paper work says M-14. As daft as that is.
Suggest you contact Boyds about the shipping weight. Every stock is going to be slightly different in weight, but they can tell you the average.

They are M1A stocks, not M14 so this is not an issue.

thanks guys I figured I would give it a shot and will be ordering one shortly and since the limit has been raised I plan on replacing a cracked stock on a old savage 340A
from what I have read everyone seems to really like the stocks boyds produces
thanks again
