It's tough living in the North!

Woh.. Nice looking carrots Ted, tried a few new things in the garden this year, peppers did not work out too well

Quite curious on how that grizzly meat would taste,

not Ted,

but unless they re feeding on fish they re tasty.

not as tender as a young black bear but still very good ...

I ve made gulascz, bear bourguignon, fondues and all of them where tasty ...

I had grizzly and potatoes coming from Ted and it was great ...

all the best.

Just got back home from a little foray into the bush. Had a great time, caught a couple of fish, ate great, and woke up to five inches of snow this morning. Would have stayed a few more days, but heading to Winnipeg tomorrow morning.

Any of you 'peg guys going to be around this weekend, or are you all going to be hunting?
Ted

As a long-time lurker of this thread, I would have loved to meet you, Ted, but I'll be working and then hunting. I'll probably be up in the tower when your flight comes in, though! Safe travels.

Hey Ted, When you land in Winnipeg go directly to gate 20 or 21 and jump on a Calm Air flight to Churchill; you'll have a much better time here. I just got back from the Peg last weekend, and once I discovered that neither Wholesale Sports of Cabellas had what I needed it was time to come home! But I can hear now thanks to those marvelous little electronic gizmos that sit behind my ears.

Is that C suppose to be a zero?
Fraaaaaaaaaaack...........been -15 up and down here for a while.
I thought it was warmer as the thermometer on the fence was reading
just under the 0.
The one on the kitchen window is -15.
Oh well, makes picking up doggy doo dew easier.

Great photo by the way.

Merry Christmewse to yu'all up there close to Santa.

A Christmas Story

'Twas the night before Christmas--Old Santa was pissed.
He cussed out the elves and threw down his list.
Miserable little brats, ungrateful little jerks.
I have a good mind to scrap the whole works!

I've busted my ass for damn near a year,
Instead of 'Thanks Santa'--what do I hear?
The old lady #####es cause I work late at night.
The elves want more money--The reindeer all fight.

Rudolph got drunk and goosed all the maids.
Donner is pregnant and Vixen has AIDS.
And just when I thought that things would get better
Those #######s from IRS sent me a letter,
They say I owe taxes--if that ain't damn funny
Who the hell ever sent Santa Claus money?

And the kids these days--they all are the pits
They want the impossible--Those mean little ####s
I spent a whole year making wagons and sleds
Assembling dolls...Their arms, legs and heads
I made a ton of yo yo's--No request for them,
They want computers and robots...they think I'm IBM!

Flying through the air...dodging the trees
Falling down chimneys and skinning my knees
I'm quitting this job there's just no enjoyment
I'll sit on my fat ass and draw unemployment.

There's no Christmas this year now you know the reason,
I found me a blonde. I'm going SOUTH for the season

This evening, out the back door, -5C.

It's tough living in the North!
Ted

When you say 'evening'... what time do you mean? I'm out of working light here by 4:00 this time of year.

It was only around -19C here today, though the windchill was... somewhat colder!

I've got to see the Yukon. I'm slowly but surely 'de-urbanizing' my young lady-friend. I figure in another year, a trip to YK will be as appealing to her as one to New York or Vegas (she seems to be learning quickly.)

Thanks for the cool thread Ted.

Ted you make us want to move north. Of course southern MB is a balmy -41 with wind this evening but that's a minor inconvenience......

I have a couple of close friends who moved here from Whitehorse, and they state emphatically that the weather, all-around, is better there than it is here.

they re trying to get you in ... it s damn so cold that you barely survive over here ... here s a good example today it was -5 celcius ........

Only tourists and Upper Canadians talk about the windchill.

And site/plant workers. With massive exaggeration thrown in for good measure. Two conversations I heard yesterday about the weather last Friday (which was around -24, with the WC in the -30 to -32 range):

"They let us work when it was -45 on Friday, but today it's only -20 and they shut us down!"

And...

"Me buddy says it was -50 a half-hour out of town at site!"

LOL.

Anyway, [/derail]... back to the North!

Coldest I have seen in Whitehorse was -68F. Not out in the hinterland, but right in town with all the heat loss from buildings, vehicles, etc. It was -81 at Mayo that night.
