I originally posted the link below as part of another thread discussion. I thought other members here may be interested in viewing this torture test so here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhx8P4cXb8w . This link is the 1st of 3 parts.

Let me help you with that:

As much as I love vortex, does it not seem vaguely ridiculous to see an "independent" test posted to the Vortex Optics channel?

I'm not saying its a bad test. It looks reasonably rigorous, but the guy is wearing a vortex hoodie and hat for half the video.

I dont see the video from my actual location,
Is it the one in water for 24 hours, than in the freezer, than shoot with a 300 Win Mag ?
If thats the one IMHO, its ridiculous
The water is not pressurized, I mean it is not under 30 meter of water.
A freezer its what ? -15 celsius, in Alberta hunting yotes can go as bad as -35 celsius.
Considering a 300 Win Mag as a torture recoil testing is ridiculous, this is one of the most common big game caliber...
Please, dont tell me its this video ;)

I didn't watch part two, but up too bore sighting it, your presumption is correct. 300wm is hardly a torture test - if it were, why do so many people use it for hunting "big game" that the 257 Roberts is ideal for? Put a scope on the 475 Atkinson Marquart mag, or the 700ne for an extreme test.

Not to disparage Vortex optics though: I bought a 2.5-10x40 Viper PST a year ago, (first Vortex) that I have used on two rifles and it has been fine. I am hesitant to purchase the larger Viper PST models because of the complaints about clarity on high magnification... but maybe that's because I am partial to Zeiss? I can see the Viper glass first hand to see myself if the complaints are entirely valid. But for the affordability, I expect some leniency should be accorded.
