ruger sr1911-cmd (#6702)**** UPDATE POST 32***

Let's blow this "1911s need a loose slide to frame fit for reliable functioning" myth out of the water.

None of us are going to be dipping our guns into mud baths, sand boxes, etc., as done in military acceptance tests. I have a Series '70 Gold Cup that was and is still 'tight', and functional reliable with any load I feed it. Same for a blued Remington R1 that was 'tight' out of the box.

Makers are able to make to more exacting tolerances with minimal machining of forgings due to advances in casting techniques, CNC machining and MIM of non-critical parts. Buyers have come to expect closer fit and tolerances, even in production guns.

Esthetically, it is unacceptable for a new commercial 1911 to rattle like a GI beater gun. At least for some of us. Others may have lower standards of excellence.

Well as expected the guns are late , surprise surprise
I was told first by the importer it would be June 1st 2013
Then it was middle of September 2013 just got an update now it's going to be April/may 2014
Why does ruger not want my money ?

Very typical Ruger marketing ploy... They hyped the SR1911 for well over a year before it started to appear in dribs & drabs. By then everyone was chomping at the bit to be the first kid on the block with a spankin' new SR1911 in the stable.

They are doing the exact same thing with the compact model. Hype it up so the first few thousand are already pre sold in potential buyer's minds long before the first production/sales model has rolled out of the factory.

Ruger is so snowed under with new orders that they are having a hard time keeping up with demand so it's not surprising that the SR1911 Commander is way behind schedule. When I was at SHOT in 2012 the Ruger rep told me they were running 3 shifts a day on SR1911s and couldn't keep up. Add those to the takedown 10/22s, the Scout rifles plus their normal production items and it's no surprise that everything's delayed. It's a seller's market right now for just about anything that shoots.

I have a SR1911. Just spent a day at the range making big holes in little targets, and ran about 400 cheapo Norc rounds through it. Worked like a charm.

I didn't find it especially loose, but most of my pistol experience has been with the CF issued Browning HP. In any case, I love mine. I would reccomend it to anyone.

Edited to add: I was happy with my stainless Ruger until I saw that nitron-coated one. That is one lovely gun.

Lol most of the customers at my club feel the same way as do there wives

:rey2 misbehaving at the club? Business tip, it's the wives that'll have the final "yea/nay" on hubbies purchase. Husband's tip, get the wife hooked on range time as well...smooth sailing from there on. :wave:

Unfortunately for me, she doesn't like shooting .45 acp, so I'll be relegated to 1. {you know I'm going ta bobtail it:redface:}
