The asking price on M-39's is sure rocketing upward isn't it?
Are they worth the extra $$$?
I picked up two M-39's and an M-96 swede from a cousin in Vegas about 4 years back for in the neighbourhood of 1000$ ( all in) and it seems as though at least this investment is paying off.
Think they will catch and pass the Mauser 98's in value?
Pretty tough to catch the Garands though.
Any thoughts on this? Inflated value or not?

I almost choked ...just seen one one the EE for near a 1000$ ...at the end of the day it's a mosin for petes sake.....
kinda seems a bit ridiculous
(Imho and my 2cents)

To be fair I think it's the same guy selling both, and I can't see them moving at that price.
They seem to move at $500 ish and I think that's fair. Someone can list for whatever they want, doesn't mean they'll sell.

fair enough but wow...I could buy 5 91/30's in great shape for that price...who knows ..maybe I should and then in a few years when the supply dries up sell em for 1200 a piece :p... 1000$ for any mosin just seems outrageous..500 for a very nice 39 is ok..kinda.... but fair though !

Well, to be fair, it is a straight stock M/39, and they are very rare. It's more than I'd be willing to pay for it, but it's not your average M/39 either.

Around $500-$600 tops I have rough wartime 43 Issy's that cut 1.25" at 100 yards and a couple hexes all for 1/4 that price. But one can ask what they want for their own gun i guess. In the States SVT 40's are anywhere between $1000-$1500 with Lever dumping them for $200 here.Supply and demand.

Westrifle is/was pushing theirs for just over $600 but they weren't moving too fast at that price. I wouldn't mind having one in the collection, but at that price I grabbed a couple nice 91/30's instead. An older hex receiver is way cheaper and a far better manufactured rifle than any wartime job if it's in decent shape.
Irunguns is bringing in a trial run of Chinese carbines if anyone's looking for a cheaper alternative. Very limited numbers so you'll need to keep your eyes out for them. Sounded like a January ETA.

Getting off the topic of M39s, the one thing that I won't even look at is collector rebuilt garands going for $1500 or more.

Like paying new in wrap Irish Contract prices for a No.4 Enfield put back together with random wood and a mismatch bolt. I sure hope those Korean Garands make it over here to put a dent in the prices.

Westrifle is selling M38 carbines, not M39 rifles.

nyles as said , this is a straight stock
it is rare and more wood is beautiful

#a 91/30 is not a M39
a 91/30 is not an M27 or 28 or 28/30
it's weapons, think and built by the Finnish
if you think, effectively, go buy a 91/30, it is much cheaper

here is a picture of the first time I shot with my M39 last weekend
#
temperature : -17 ° C
ammunition : ppu 7.62x54 tablet
range: 100m

the holes on the left are the first hole during the setting of the pattern
screwdriver " please" not need special wrench or hammer :)
not Russian , Finnish

then the last 6 holes are the last consecutive shots
the last 5 shots were fired standing without sling with frozen fingers and do not deserve the pictures :)

I hope the same thing again
I could not believe

for those who do not believe me , it does not matter
it was just information about the M39

if you find a mosin 91/30 that you do it without modif
you call me because mine have never done that
but I am sure that there are

An M-39 is NOT your standard Mosin, and the straight stock version is pretty rare (6500ish). Some people also care about history, and the Finn Mosins kept Finnland from being Russia. Twice:p If you haven't, look up Simo Hayha, and be awed. Try Finding a Finn around these days. The price is going up fast, as the last of the surplused stuff is pretty much gone. Limited numbers, vs millions.

In 'Bolt Action Military Rifles of the World' by Stuart C. Mowbray ( a 'Merican no less, so not light praise ) claims it is the peak of military bolt actions.
Not the almighty Springfield or Mauser; but the M39.
Awesome book BTW

The m39 is a very nice rifle indeed.

I found one at the last gun show I attended but the guy wanted $875 for it and wouldn't budge!

People are free to ask what they want for their rifles, doesn't mean that I'll pay it though. I'm just as happy with my $125 1909 Finn m91, it's not as special as the 39 but I like it just the same.

As for the $1500 parts bin garands, I'm lucky that I have little interest in American rifles I guess:)

I agree with Even2's post.

Haven't seen any shipments of M-39's showing up as of late. Same goes for the SA SVT-40's. Not sure how many Globeco ended up butchering into masterpieces known as Mohawks!

The listed prices are too much for me, but I could see a serious Finnish milsurp collector paying that much for a clean example. I didn't find them to be totally unreasonable. (Especially that beautiful straight grip stock)

In the states for an EX condition M39 you'll pay $400-$500. US prices rarely have an indication of Canadian prices, but in this day and age for a $200 premium you can buy one off gun broker and bring it in. That means you can have a nice M39 for ~$600. The normal M39 that is posted up in the EE is way overpriced given that crack. Probably worth $400 max. But then again, what the hell, this is the day and age where all the non-91/39 mosins are going gangbusters for some reason. Westrifle brings in a bunch and stacks the price at $600 and all of a sudden every single CAI marked counterbored M38 is worth $500 on the EE. And some of them are selling.

The market is what the market is, and prices are what people are willing to pay for things. Notice that those M38s aren't exactly flying off the shelves. Ahhh I remember a day when P&S had a boatload of M44s and M38s for $200-$250. Those were the days.

On the flip side Collectors Source always seemed to have M39s floating around for ~$800. When Collectors Source prices meet market prices, you know you've got issues.

There really aren't that many M39s on the market. They are the best of the Mosins. Minty they are worth ~$700. Bottom end ~$500. Straight stock? You make a call. I'm not paying $1,000 for one.. but if someone is willing to, then that's the market price.

Plus add taxes on top of that, plus add lot of time and efforts, and import process is not smooth at all. Regardless of what importers say. I'm stuck in the process without knowing where my quite expensive gun is and how it will end. Not a pleasant experience so far.
