Tanfoglio mags finicky?

I am considering replacing my standard CZ mags with Tanfoglio mags for use in my SP-01 Shadow Line. I heard that Tanfoglio mags are very finicky and may even require cleaning between stages. How true is that? If they're gonna take up THAT MUCH of my time, I might as well stick with CZ mags instead.

Also, it looks like they just have a rivet, so if I am competing south of the border, I can grind it off, compete and put a new one back in before coming back to Canada?
 
What magazines are you talking about? What caliber? I have a Tanfoglio on order in .40 that will ship with competition mags that are reportedly reliable as they are designed with a spacer that works well with standard OAL cartridges.

These mags are "pinned" by use of a dimple stamped or pressed into the mag tube. As far as I know, you are OK as long as mags in your possession are pinned to ten in a legal manner before you enter Canada.

I'm in the US for extended periods and compete there so I will just by "US" mags and leave then there when I return.
 
Its the opposite, I went over to them for their quality and ease of cleaning. No rivets but dimple in the body which if removed will make them prohib.
 
9x19 in this case. So the dimple in the body would have to be straightened and then I can just drill/rivet for when I bring the mags back home? Don't have a place abroad to stash the mags.
 
I had a shadow and a stock(only have the stock now).I sold all my CZ mags and used only the Tanfoglio mags for both guns.The tanfoglio mags were far superior quality wise and smoother in operation.Any mag will need an occasional clean on the range to work properly,especially if dropped much as in IPSC.I have never found them finicky at all.

The newer mags have the dimple which still allows you to easily remove the follower and spring for cleaning.I prefer this setup to the older mags which were riveted and would sometimes catch the mag spring.
 
Thanks guys. Can that dimple be (relatively) easily straightened out for competitive use abroad? And for bringing it back over to our side of the border, do you just drill and rivet?

No, it's a permanent modification. If you grind it off and somehow bubba the mags to pass 10 round muster and you end up getting checked at the border, be ready to have them seized and possibly face charges.
If you are competing in USPSA south of the border you will be relegated to 10 rounds.

Thanks... That means I'll keep my Shadow mags as they're working fine, and find SOME way to keep a few standard capacity mags abroad. As you saw at BRRC, my shooting skills are enough of a handicap :cool:
