Agreed, x2 338 WM's for me.
But it will be a cold day in hell before I buy a short action anything, much less a short mag.
Nothing personal guys, I just prefer the look of a 3.6" long cartridge

Maybe they could design an even shorter case based on the WSM to put into an even shorter action. They could be called the WUSM (for Winchester Ultra Short Magnum) or something like that. You'd probably want to make them in smaller calibers though, to make them more comfortable to shoot. Perhaps in 6mm and .257"...
Yes, I think we need WSSSM's but also in .223 and perhaps .17, then we can get special AR's with short and fat actions and magazine built to save on redundant weight.

Probably just as many 338 feds sold as 325wsm...
regardless, I like my .338 WM...
As do I, I wouldn't trade it for any short mag.
But not as fast as 270 Weatherby....
All I ever freakin hear when I talk deer hunting is '300 short mag, 300 short mag!'. I have to assume it's way more popular than the rest. As far as performance goes, they all come close to some of their longer brethren. As far as buying one goes, just ask yourself whether the short action and one less shell outweighs long action. I shot my buddy's 300 WSM and can't honestly see any real difference between it and my former 300 Winchester.

The two best things to come from it is (neither apply to Canada)
1) the ability to be chambered in an AR15 for hunting and
2) the ability to be necked up to .358 WSSM to allow some states to skirt around cartridge restrictions...(diameter and length)...
My buddy has one and really likes it, but does nothing with it that a 243 win can't do.

Answer: 270 WSM the only cartridge which fills a market need!
Everyone as been waiting for the average guy's 270 Magnum and 270 Weatherby, while an excellent long range cartridge, is not it.
270 WSM does everything that 270 Win or 270 Weatherby do but better (and 150fps faster/slower respectively).
My opinion on the other cartridges:
7 WSM excellent but redundant cartridge (7 Rem Mag is simply too well established).
300 WSM excellent but redundant cartridge (300 Win Mag is simply too well established).
325 WSM excellent but American's don't like 8mm cartridges (338 Win Mag is superior and well established).
On big advantage with all the WSM: they are really accurate cartridges because of their short and fat design but you loose 1 round in magazine capacity.
As for the WSSM, they're basically dead on arrival: 22-250, 243 Win and 25-06 Rem are excellent, well established, overbore cartridges.

They will do everything, along with a host of other cartridges.
that does not mean that just because something has come out in the last 10 years or so tha it is better than something that has been around for a while.
" something someone designed to sell to someone who thinks they need it" is exactly what I was told by an industry rep many years ago.

I never said anything was wrong w the 06 but remember the model t seemed to do the trick also . Just say steps in the right direction don't have to be leaps and bounds just a little bit at a time is alright too .
Mind u husqvarna makin leaps and bounds in the wrong direction . So maybe cartridges r doing the same but to me they seem more efficiently design imo

The WSM is good for those who live in wide open areas and can make 400 + meter shots. Those who live in thick wooded areas, you're just spending more money to get the same job done.
