Hey Guys,
Just wanted to see if anyone out there has experience with the M38 Mosin Nagant? I have been thinking about another firearm purchase lately and at first planned on getting an SVT-40 but now I am kind of leaning toward getting possibly an M38 Mosin Nagant if they are available (love my 91/30)....thanks.

M38 should be just as fun to shoot as the M44 it just doesn't have a bayonet lug.
Just as with other MN variants just give it once over. Seen a few M38 at shows that have been counterbored.
Polish M44's are around and are minty.

Thanks Beermaker,

Just looked at a few youtube videos of the M38 and M44 and I think I am sold....they look like fun little Rifles!!

If you want more than one Mosin, you should have a nice carbine.

And you're lucky that the nicest example of the type, the M38, seems to have just arrived in some quantity and at what amounts to a wholesale price compared with what's been around this past year.

Agreed, I have owned many different types of Firearms over the Years but this past Fall when I took my 91/30 out to the range I truly had a great time. One of these Mosin Nagant Carbines would be a perfect addition to my collection.

Get the SVT-40 if you dont already have one. The M38 is good, but if you already have a mosin 91/30 you may as well get the SVT. You can get em for less price and they are a different action to shoot with the same ammunition.

I eventually plan to get both but my Wife lets me get one a Year...lol so I keep going back and forth between the Mosin Carbine or SVT-40.

SVT40 prices have been falling over the past year. I'm not so sure that the same will be said for the carbines, especially with the current correction in the market and the demand for them in general. Strategically I'd say the M38 is the wiser buy right RIGHT now, though both are a good deal.

The SVT-40 's are great price wise right now, I handled one about a month ago at a Gun Shop very nice Rifles...my concern is how long will the supply will be available for both Rifles.

SVT-40 supply is pretty much garenteed for the next while as the US can't import them. That leaves the Canadian market and it is also why they are so cheap here. The M38's and M44's could dry up very quickly (I actually was surprised to see the M38's for so cheap)

Finding one in a very good condition is a huge issue. They are slightly longer than 44 models (proper barrel would have larger diameter too), but 99% are counter-bored, so you can assume the same length of the barrel. I would suggest a muzzle brake. Lack of bayo is a huge plus, because M38 was designed to be shot without it, while M44 was designed to be shot with it on (acts as a compensator to some extend).

The M38 or M44 are a good choice. Always cool to send 3 foot fireballs down range lol....

I watched some youtube videos and they sure looked like a lot of fun, even Hickok45 did a review on them. I had a great time with my 91/30 at the Range last fall so I can't wait to try out the M38....Mosin's are just as addicting as the SKS's it would seem..:D
