M&P or Spingfield XD??

I don't, personally - I'm a slide release guy. If it goes forward on it's own, it's a bonus. Also since the slide forward is triggered by the force vector acting on the slide stop, it won't release unless the mag is seated firmly enough to transmit the force along that vector. In other words the mag must seat to make the slide go.
I have both I like the XDM more. For me the XDM is a lot more accurate, both are good guns. The powder river drop in trigger kit is very good in the XDM. For first gun the 9mm is cheaper and easier to shoot also the m&p has the advantage of being cheaper. So bang for buck would go to m&p, even though I like the XDM better.
Just noticed you said XD, I like my XD's better than the m&p as well, for me it's XDM, XD then M&P if price not factor but with price M&P is best bang for buck.

LOL my life - my choice - Ohh geez the drama ! You have to own the pistol and know manipulation of it to appreciate it.
Look at the vid again and the fact is: its what it does. Its a design thing. Deal with it.
It' s all a matter of personal preference and *fit*. The gun has to be comfortable FOR YOU. I have all three XD's and a G22. I do not own but have shot the M&P multiple times. I prefer the fit & feel of the XD over the others. They have been solid performers for me as well. My XD-40 is my go to gun for all competitions / shooting courses etc and has never failed me to date (approaching 70k rounds thru it btw).
Is one better or worse than the other ... that's an eternal debate with no clear resolution. Take into consideration the limited applications for handguns in Canada and again....it boils down to a matter of personal preference. Ultimately, all will serve you well so pick what fits YOU and what YOU like best.

M&P9....spare and aftermarket parts are more readily available than on the XD.

I just love the emotional rants without any objective feedback on the firearms themselves - hence take emotional rantings with a grain of salt.
It gives an impression of having no significant seat time behind the firearm itself. Using personal experience or an isolated example instead of a valid argument, especially to dismiss statistics. ie: anecdotic.
ANyhow - as far as a XD, M & P and a Glock in case anyone cares for an objective input:
The Glock has a lower bore axis which makes it a little better of a shooter for most but the XD/XDM has a grip angle that some prefer over the angle of the Glock, however either one can be learned to shoot just as well. ( note grip angle differences with pic) ...NOTE - as previously mentioned - I have no brand loyalty, I happen to own these handguns and use them when I can.
The M&P is a very similar pistol to the Glock with again a different grip angle. Using both shelf ammo and reloads on all my pistols the Glock tends to have better recoil management ie: less top heavy than the M&P but that may not be a good thing depending on the type of grip you end up using.
Proper trigger manipulation is key to accurate pistol shooting – some like me argue it is the most important factor when learning to shoot a handgun. For this reason alone trigger characteristics and pull weight deserve careful consideration when selecting a#pistol - having said this - Ive changed all my triggers(as to only my striker fire pistols) to 3.5lbs of pull.
Stock trigger pulls are: Glock 17 its 5.5lbs - M&P : 6.5lbs - XD40 - XD9: 5.6lbs

I only know 3 that do that, the mp that I had did it, the Glock does it but I don't have much experience with it, and the hk does it pretty easily, some people complain about it and think is a glitch in the design. Mine does it all the time, I don't care really and I kinda like it.
I think when anyone looks at any of these firearms we are judging preference based on very close comparison. I would be happy with any of these firearms for target practice or duty gear. They are the top of the pack with all having slight differences. Bottom Line the OP has asked for opinions from members and that is what we should offer to aid in the selection process for him or her. Reviews can be read online, that is where most of us start; then we move to friends and forums to see if they have any first hand experience.
