T97... Are you happy with your purchase? Sights no good?

I got rid of mine, sold it at a loss for 850 bucks. This was my first chinese firearm. I never will buy chinese again, EVER.

Man, i feel like there are a lot of gun snobs on here. I previously had a Sabre Defense AR which was about 2 grand new. I recall the fit and finish being pretty much the same as it is on my T97. Having not shot my T97 yet I can't really comment on performance, but I feel like most people around here have only had minor feeding issues with it which were solved either by a) different magazines b) different ammo or c) last resort filing the feed ramps. I feel like people just dont want to say they have a chinese gun because they feel high and mighty saying they have an American or German made firearm. Stupid

If you think the fit and finish on a $2000 sabre defense AR-15 is "pretty much the same" as a T-97, you have no idea what you're talking about. Get a clue then comment.

I'll tell you one thing, I sold my Sabre AR because owning a restricted gun in Canada is too much BS for me. The ranges around here are all PACKED every day of the week. A slightly superior fit and finish on a restricted rifle certainly doesnt trump a very acceptable fit and finish on a T97 that I can take and shoot wherever I please. Ill never go back to owning restricted guns. shooting at paper targets all day is and will always be boring to me.

A lot of people around here just want to feel high and mighty for spending 2500 On their XCR or Tavors, whilst none of those arm chair commandos will ever see "war" or "zombie apocolypse". Face it, these rifles are for fun and nothing more. if you actually rely on your rifle to do your job everyday, then sure spend more money and get something you know you can rely on 100%. All firearm manufacturers put out duds from time to time.

I try to own, try and use as many different types of 5.56mm rifles as I can afford.
The Type 97 works well and the iron sight is accurate. It is a combat type sight, good for deer or man sized silhouettes for sure, but not necessarily target type shooting.
For what it is, it is a very good deal.

So long as you are not trying to separate the fly droppings out of the pepper shaker at 200yds, you'll be in the eight or six inch gong if not better all day.
Only advice I'ld give, use regular and proven aluminum mags and known ammo.

I find I have more "fun" when I'm not playing with garbage. YMMV.

Nope i have a cheap russian sks and a cheap cz858 that i really adore, both together cost me less than that t97. Money or gun snobbery is not the issue here. I have expensive guns, non expensive guns, semi expensive guns, i even have a 10/22 that i really love shooting.
This is an opinion thread about if i was happy with my t97, i sure was not, maybe someone else will be.
I always believe a product should work to its intended purpose, without the consumer having to do annoying stupid machining or filing modifications.

so what was wrong with your T97? Performance wise, I'm not talking ergos. genuinely curious.

Performance is mediocre at best about as good as my cz. My main problems are as follows:
1 how to remove that nasty front sight, im not a machinist or a welder or some handy genius guy with tools.
2 how can i put optics on that thin in a way that makes sense, why so high?
3 why do i need to file the feeding ramp so that my magazines fit.
4 plastic is cheap and loose fitting, there is way better plastic available today than this.
5 bolt assembly should have been engineered better, looks confusing and weird.
6 safety is dumb

same old boring elitist attitude. good job spending 3 grand on a rifle that performs more or less the same as a T97.

It isn't about economics - it's about functionality. I've got some cheapies that run well, and some expensive stuff that doesn't.

A barely functional rifle at any price point isn't a deal.

Personally HATE the Type 97. I'm left-handed and if I fire one, I'll take hot brass in the grille. Hello China - this is NOT 1950, the devil did not make bad boys left-handed, and in the real world, soldiers need to be able to use their rifle with the off-hand from time to time.

Barely functional? It seems there are a lot more people on here that have had good luck with their t97 than those who haven't.

Was putting a few rounds (AE 55gr. FMJ) downrange yesterday, and had no issues with the sights.
At 25 yards, the #1 aperture was placing the rounds a couple of inches low...#3 was right on...and #5 was a couple of inches high....all perfectly centred.
I haven't sat down to figure what that would translate into at 50, 100, 200 yards, but I'm sure someone else will chime in with this data.
(I have one of the flat top conversions on order, but could happily live with the current set up.)

Based on your findings, I believe if your #1 aperture puts your point of impact @ 25 yards is a couple of inches low, then you should be on centre @ 100 & just about the same POI @ 200 yards as 25 yards, that is, a couple of inches low. This is just my opinion. you may have to try & find out @ the range.
