Zeiss conquest .....never again...............

Thanks a lot everybody for your support,
Also your offer via PM.
I will send this scope for warranty Monday,
Until then, friend of mine give me this scope to finalize my season.
Its a Leupold Mark 4, 8.5-25x50mm.
this scope is big, heavy and the mount too high for me, BUT !
I never been so accurate, it took 2 rounds to bring it on paper.
after that; 3 shot group .
I Think I`m in love with this scope!
I draw a blue line to be few inch up at 100 yard, this blue line will give me a perfect zero at 200 yards.
At least tonight I was back hunting, Big, Huge tracks, but no venison yet....

Cool! A $1500 scope on a $300 rifle.

Wow! A $1000 zeiss and it self destructed in a single sight in sesion?!
####ty deal.
8.5-20x50 wow that's a lot of glass. A bit too much for the tight bush arround here in Ontario. Glad to see a friend could help you out!

I know a guy(he's on here) who had two S&B scopes in a row that were defective. The third has been flawless. I had never heard of another until this thread. I still think they are great scopes and wouldn't hesitate to buy one(if I could afford it). It happens to all brands

Bought a Zeiss conquest 4.5-14x44 Z-800 last year.
Didn’t use it at all, since few week ago to get ready for hunting season.
Sighting-in perfectly at 100 yard, than tried it at 400 yard and the line #4, was bang on.
I bought this scope because of all the review I was reading.
Indeed; awesome scope, very clear/bright.
But this thing is weak has a toothpick.
I am in full hunting mode right now, I took 2 weeks off only for this.
Today I'm at the beginning of day 4...
Only saw black bears and does, no big buck yet.
As I`m walking I heard a metal noise clicking.
I taught it was my sling swivel, after few minutes to try different trick to solve that issue.
I notice shacking the rifle, it was coming for the scope.
I looked in it from both side, and OMFG !
I don’t see Cheet in it, image is all crocked and there is a piece
Literally loose and rattling in the objective.
I’m in the middle of the rut, looking for my buck and my $$$ ZEISS $$$
Broke down.
I would say it’s a POS, but I can see the blades coming from everywhere.
So I will not say it.
What am I going to do now ?
My scope is USELESS, ( $1000)
Warranty will take week, even more (Canada)
My hunting season is scrap because of ZEISS.
Next time, I will add RELIABILITY to my next riflescope shopping list.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune and glad to see you got a loaner. I offer that it is not say a Zeiss thing though, I've got two Conquests and they have been trouble free for years. Sometimes you just get a bad one.

Heck, one of my Nightforce scopes had a side adjust turret go...although that was after 8 years on a 338wm and a 300rum and a pretty high round count. Nightforce, of course, fixed it promptly and for no charge.

Good luck on your hunt.

Not suprising considering the rifle is a savage. They may be ugly, and not quite as nice as a browning or tikka, but they work!

Ugly??? Stainless steel, jeweled bolt, flush fit magazine. No more ugly than Tikka's or any other bolt gun with synthetic stock IMO. If I was looking for a pretty gun Browning Medallion models have nice wood and metal finish.

Go to the store if you can, buy an inexpensive scope, take the broken scope off, sight back in with the inexpensive scope.
Keep that cheap scope around as a spare. This will be a bit of a pain, but you'll get back out hunting.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, a $100.00 Bushnell will hold you over until your done your hunt.

I called them,
29 Nov 2013, they sent my scope to Virginia.
From Virginia; they might have to send it to Germany if they cant fix it.
the ETA is 8-10 weeks.

There isn't a single company, that hasn't produced a dud, and apparently you found one. I have owned eight Conquests with no issues, at all. I have seen isolated issues with several brands, including Leupold. This is exactly why ,I always take two rifles on every hunting trip.

Great advice..

So what do Gentec and Zeiss USA actually do? Are they a shipping depot? Looks like Zeiss needs to find someone who can fix scopes. As the saying goes; "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." I'd be one the phone with Gentec, then Zeiss USA and if that fails, Zeiss Germany, and asking for a new scope. I'd be willing to bet you'll get a new one.

As the Conquest is built in the USA it will be repaired in the U.S.A. Gentec is strictly the Canadian distributor....they have no facilities to do major repairs but they do handle the shipping of the scope to the appropriate repair facility....in the case of the Conquest that is the U.S.A. Eight weeks is pretty well their standard turn around time.

From what I read too, that's it for any US made Zeiss. Terra line is made in Japan now, and everything else in Germany.

SITREP:
4 weeks,
they have my email address,
they have my phone number,
they have my mail address.

NO NEWS AT ALL :(

I agree that all scopes can give trouble if you are unlucky - but that is the one reason I run Leupolds with the service from Korth in High River.

I remember having a issue (my fault - scratched a lens) and shipping the scope to korth on a Tuesday via courier, and having it in my hands on Thursday. I am only a couple hours away - but that kind of service will certainly get my business again.
