Lately Canada Post has been charging the snot out of everything that has been shipped from the states. Just lately they collected $3 tax plus a $10 collection fee from a small ticket item I just received

I was wondering if anyone who has brought in stocks from Boyds are being fleeced by our wonderful mail corporation.

GST and Customs handling fee. It applies to all merchandise from USA but they don't always charge it. Kind of hit and miss.

Could be worse, could have been delivered by a brown or white truck with some person at your door with their hand out wanting money. Their charges are ridiculous....brokerage fees etc. So you pay them to deliver the item to you here then u pay them again for doing what u paid them to do in the first place....

I understand the tax but there was a $10 fee for collecting it. That does not seem to be a customs charge but CP charging to collect it.

Customs has always had a handling fee as well....it used to be $5 but perhaps it's $10 now. Again it was kind of hit and miss when they charged it.

If the item ordered from the US has a declared value of more than $60 USD, then Canada customs is supposed to charge GST (which also nets the $10 processing fee) on the Canadian $ converteted value.
As stated it IS hit and miss. In the last month I got charged on a $65 item but the next week a $230 item made it through.

I don't complain when I get charged... Because they only charge about 50% of the time and technically it is supposed to be 100% of the time... And the $10 brokerage fee when shipping via Postal Service is cheapest of all available options, as stated above, UPS and FedEx charge 2-3 times that much AND they broker 100% of the time. I always request postal shipping if it is an option.

Not quite right. If it's value is $60 CDN or less and declared a gift, they don't charge fees unless it's tobacco or booze. Obviously that doesn't apply to any kind of merchandise ordered. If it's under $20 CDN, there's no fees, again unless it's booze or tobacco.

It's basically a crapshoot. I've had high priced items go through without any fees and had cheap stuff come back with fees due. Like others mentioned, one thing's for sure; if you use UPS,Fedex, etc, there will always be fees.

I always plan on paying the hst when i order. 95% of the time its still cheaper than buying here, as a lot of stuff i buy is 50% cheaper in the US. Do the math ahead, so no surprises...

One item i bought recently was delivered by UPS, and even with their extortion fees, still saved me $100.

I bought a stock from Redhawk Rifles about a month ago and it was not dinged like most shipments I get from the states. Its a crap shoot. And yes, Boyds has really upped their shipping rates but thank God its still USPS. For the couriers I assume I can expect to pay at least double the shipping rate quoted, so I refuse to buy from anyone who doesn't ship USPS from the states. There seems to be no end to the crap we have to put up with.

Customs and taxes on items coming into the country, all you are doing is paying your brokerage fees to CP . depending on the items they can really hurt ,I paid 14 dollars on a shirt for my wife , the shirt was about 12 bucks lol. some items are worth bringing in and paying duty others (often small low dollar items that don't meet the exemptions ) can be frustrating at best .
