.375 Ruger Alaskan anyone shoot one or hunt with one

Great gun and accurate. Mine really likes the Hornady factory ammo, but looking forward to trying the new Nosler stuff.
The irons are great. I've got Warne QD rings on it so the scope comes off on a regular basis for a little reassurance riverside.

I had one. I liked it, but sold it to fund another rifle purchase. Some people don't care for the hogue stock. I didn't mind it on the Alaskan. It's a nice handy rifle, I didn't find recoil bad at all. Enjoy!

I got one on order. should get it mid January. if you do a search you will find a bit of info. Talk to "Gatehouse" he is probably the most experienced 375Ruger guy on the sight. I have been doing home work and drooling for mine for a while now.

In simple terms its a "short mag H&H". The only bad info that your going to find about the 375Ruger is a bunch of 375H&H followers that feel threatened that there is a rival on the market . I wont even get into the "King and New King" banter. you don't see 300wm,30-06,308 and 3030 guys knock one another because they shoot the same bullets.

I think you should be very happy with the Ruger.

Although I'm a big fan of "THE TRUE KING" of the medium bores the .375 H&H, I have nothing against the Ruger offering except the garbage Hornady brass, which is the only brass available for it. I like the design of the cartridge and my son has an African which is a wonderful feeling rifle. The fact no one has made brass for it besides Hornady concerns me though as this usually means the cartridge is doomed when other manufacturers don't jump on the ammo bandwagon. I make brass for my son's using W-W 300 WM brass and it works outstanding so I have solved the brass issue, but that still doesn't make it's future look any brighter.

A pal of mine has one and I load his ammo for him. His bullet of preference is the 260 gr AB. He likes the Hogue stock; he works near the water and his hands are often wet, despite that he says the Hogue never seems to get slippery. If it were me, I'd find an alternate method of mounting the scope, which IMHO, brings the ocular too close to the shooter's eye when he's in a hurry or when shooting from an awkward position. There's nothing quite like getting tagged by a scope on a hard kicking rifle. He's doesn't consider it an issue, but sooner or later it will be.

I have taken a pretty nice black bear (stopped kicking after about 3 seconds!!) and one decent bull moose. After seeing how quickly it laid out those animals, I have a hard time grabbing anything smaller these days. I absolutely LOVE the Hogue stock (and I have one of those Hogue stocks on a Howa rifle I have, and its exactly what I need in my tough conditions. Sticky in my hands, and they fit me perfectly) I haven't gotten to use the iron sites because mine is scoped, but I don't find the kick to be ANY harder than my 300 win mag (howa lightning 1500) and that is with stiff loads and 300 gr X bullets. It's not like I'm going to be shooting this for tons of target practice, so my 120 pieces of brass will last me quite a while. If Santa had a heart, he`d deliver one of these to each and every CGN'er this Christmas. It's remarkably easy to reload for. And it is my most accurate rifle. (I've heard that medium and big bores are not that hard to get shooting accurately)
I have 235 grainers loaded up for any moose/caribou I find, and I have 250gr TTSX and 270/300 grainers loaded for my bigger game (bears especially, cause I love "overkilling" them. ) I can't wait to take this up the Canol trail next year. There is a big ol' Grizz up there just awaiting the arrival of my band ........................heavy mettle , cause this baby only tosses the heavy stuff.

I kinda feel a bit "Royal" since I am wielding the "New King" around like its a wand. Handy doesn't begin to describe having that much horsepower in a short 20" barrelled gun. I wanted the .375 Ruger cause it is a shorter action, doesn't need as LONG a barrel as the .375 H & H , plus NOBODY I know has anything close . One guy I know has a .375 H & H and he's afraid of it. GEEZ. Its not different than riding a dirt bike over Whoopdedoo's , just hold on tight and you'll appreciate what it can do.

I really enjoy mine. Handy and powerful, it's also much more accurate than it has any business being. Feeds so nice, it's fun to just run cartridges through. :)
