Disagreeing with other hunters

I enjoy a spirited debate, BUT, all too often on this site, it digresses to idiocracy and name calling, lacking respect and having little semblance to the original topic. It seems that few recognize the difference between facts and opinion and it seems when someone posts a fact there are 10 opinions telling them they are wrong.
I ran into this on the 9.3X300 WM thread I posted a few months back regarding the velocities I posted as measured by my Oehler 35P. Some still posted that it wasn't possible, even after I posted photos of the printout and photos of the fired cases with primers still intact and still slightly rounded. I am not daunted though and will continue to contribute to these forums, knowing that my experiences will be questioned by those whose knowledge is gleaned from the internet and other questionable sources.
It seems to me that the "old boys club" on here, referred to earlier, almost always agree and seldom have any arguments within, but meet real resistance when voicing experiences not well covered on the internet. This is when the inexperienced and opinionated seem to become most vocal. I view this as the greatest cause of irrational debate and argument on this site, the uninformed attempting to defend positions that common sense and experience have proven to be incorrect. A perfect example of this is bullet construction, when one has thrown hundreds or even thousands of bullets at game and harvested 100s of head of game, it gives one an experience base as to what works and what doesn't. A single bullet failure is enough to rule that bullet out as appropriate for game, however the inexperienced seem to think that a single bullet success makes it acceptable for game and that just isn't how it works out there. Do they listen to the old boys with hundreds of animals taken? No, they base their opinion on one or two successful uses and what they see on TV. I have only been on CGN for 2 years and have seen this debate several times now and still it amazes me how many think that pseudo hunting, match bullets are appropriate for all types of hunting and game, when every single hunter on here with a large experience base has experienced one or more failures with these bullets.
Another is sub-calibers for big game which will cause many pages of opinions to be expressed, with "the old boys club" being fairly united against the proposition because they have seen what can go wrong when using even adequate calibers for game. And again it comes down to the fact that one failure that shouldn't have happened, one lost animal, trumps 10 successes!!
Like I said, I enjoy a spirited debate between two or more well informed individuals, the problem with hunting and shooting is that as years go by and experience and knowledge grows, opinions as to what works and what doesn't, always seem to converge. Just my observations.

well for this one I agree with you Douglas but name calling I can say you re one of the worst over here lol of lol .....

I don't want to take it to personally but you and BUM were really bad to me and for no reason whatever in Speedo or one piece of red suit swimming apparel ....

I really agree with your post on a more seriously side but there is a but : there is always someone that because is not aware will say no to someone that have the experience and the knowledge. Internet has bring a lot of knowledge but the one you got from your time in the field or at bench is still the one that will help to become more knowledgeable than any armchair expert ....

all the best.

c-fmbi, BUM and medvedqc in speedos and one piece red bathing suits....

my wife is very good with photoshop so we may have so surprise soon ....

Bingo! I belong to a forum on another site, where threads like the thread about Huskemaw scopes, and BOTW would go on for many pages, just as it did on this forum. Then one particular individual, that behaves exactly as is quoted above, left the forum, and now those runaway threads are much, much, less common.

Yep. I would agree stubble.

Some pander for the attention, and others speak with condescending authority. And 30 plus pages of unadulterated BS follow them like herpes.

I still appreciate the comments from guys like Eagleye and Mr. Petersen. The posers that want to be the outdoor authorities would need to stand on an apple box to kiss their arse IMHO. I appreciate and follow their advice with admiration.

Me as well, especially Eagleye, I can't recollect not agreeing with anything that he has posted. I guess that it is because these guys speak from experience, without the arrogant attitude, that certain other people are constantly expressing.

That was entirely Doug's fault. I'm very visual and he put the image in my head. It was like breathing in a bug...you just have to get it out.

But I digress...you may wear your red one piece to the beach anytime. :cou:

Wait a minute I'm not taking the blame/credit for this one.................all I did was agree with Phil when he said he was no Pamela Anderson. You are completely responsible for this whole beach mental image thingy going on here...............I don't know BUM maybe you been up north too long.........mental images of Phil running down the beach in his red one-piece, from a thread about Pamela Anderson (I think there's something seriously wrong with this)........my speedo quip was just an extension of YOUR mental image so, as we can all plainly see it's entirely your fault

You know Phil, I kinda figured you missed the pun here...........it's quite likely a language thing, but BUM wasn't referring to swimming attire, he was referring to one piece longjohns (underwear)........that's what red one-pieces means. He was envisioning you flouncing down a beach in long one piece red under wear (kinda like light, tight fitting coveralls).......a jab at where we live, the frozen arctic........ And I don't think he's even met all 6'5" and 270 lbs of you yet, which just adds to the ridiculum of the whole mental picture situation.
