...oh gods...worse than mentioning oil on a bike forum is this clip/mag rubbish....

some people have strange kryptonite.

Interested to see what you list your Sportowy(s) for. My father has one that he wants to sell next year and isn't sure what they are worth.

isn't the M1 Garand clip fed.
Well, a clip is short for a "stripper clip" such as is used with an SKS and many other older military rifles. Many newer rifles utilize stripper clips to quickly load the detachable magazines. It is a speed loader of sorts. A magazine is a separate, not always detachable, container that holds cartridges. Additionally, an SKS has a magazine that is filled by use of a stripper clip and an AR-15 can also have it's magazine charged by use of a stripper clip. Not a single firearm ever invented is fed by a "clip" but can be magazine fed. A clip is a tool for charging the magazine, not a device for feeding cartridges into the action of a firearm. A clip is not a magazine. Period. A magazine feeds cartridges in to the action of a firearm. No matter what a community online dictionary decides.

I hope you realize how foolish you sound. The English language is constantly evolving.

The dictionary is updated every single year. If it wasn't updated; fancy words like "computer" and "internet" wouldn't exist.

Are you going to sit there and tell me "selfie" isn't a real word? It was added to the dictionary a few weeks ago.

Clearly, some of you have far too much time on your hands if you got your panties tied in a knot over calling a magazine a clip. What's next? Arguing whether a tomato/tomatoe is really a fruit or a vegetable?

IMHO, a stripper clip usually has a tassel on it and fasten's to a peeler's nipple.

A CHARGER holds rounds to top up a MAGAZINE.

From the current Webster's Dictionary;

Definition of CLIP

1
: any of various devices that grip, clasp, or hook
2
: a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles;
also : a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm
3
: a piece of jewelry held in position by a clip

This isn't something anyone should get worked up over, but a new thread should be started for those who feel that strongly about the topic. I don't have much to say about the argument so this will be the only post I make about it, and I will only do so by quoting one of the most respected men in our shooting community.

"No, you are not a felon or a 2nd Class citizen if you call a "magazine" a "clip." It IS something you might as well get figured out, though, and correct if you want to have respect within the shooting community. It's just a fact, many will judge you as someone who doesn't know much about firearms if you call them "clips." I might still love you, but many won't. :)"

We all share the same hobby here, people.

Sometimes I say clip...sometimes magazine...but I sure don't lose any sleep over which word I use.

I think I'll start calling it a "bullet holder thingy". It would still function the same.

So, websters says a clip is used to charge magazines.
Then it defines what a magazine is.

From the current Webster's Dictionary;

Definition of CLIP

1
: any of various devices that grip, clasp, or hook
2
: a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles;
also : a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm
3
: a piece of jewelry held in position by a clip

Cambridge dictionary, let's go by this dictionary instead:
magazine
/ˌmæg·əˈzin/ n [C]
› a type of thin book with a paper cover that is published regularly and usually contains articles and photographs: a weekly/monthly magazine ›

A magazine on television is a regularly broadcast program that reports about news events or other true stories.

just because "clip" has been used incorrectly by hollywood for decades, and has therefore become synonymous and interchangable with "magazine", it doesnt make them the same thing, even though we all know what someone means when they say clip in reference to a magazine

So, websters says a clip is used to charge magazines.
Then it defines what a magazine is.

No, genius, it describes a clip as "a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles;" Then it has an important word "ALSO" meaning it can also mean the following……"a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm". That means it can be either and used interchangeably.

So get off your high horse and realize things change, even if you don't like it……..
