Help me chose a flash hider

I got an email from Simon at SJ Hardware regarding the compensator I have been waiting for.........

"things have exploded here and has been very hard to keep up"

At least I know that I am still on the list.

I figure he must be doing something right his business has become that busy.

Well I finally received the "lined" linear compensator from SJ Hardware. It has been a couple of months to get delivery because of SJ Hardware's backlog.

It is well made and certainly worth the money. I will do some noise comparisons in the spring when the range has easier access.

Merry Christmas !!!!!!

The very best flash hider on the market is the AAC Blackout. There's the B.E. Meyers too but it's unobtainium.

My favorite remains the SEI Vortex. It can be a little obnoxious on a short barrel rifle so I'll keep that one cased until I have the range to myself.

Not even, my SEI vortex on my 10.5 emits zero flash even in pitch black it's barely visible. And it does this with minimal concussion compared to any other device I've tested. The AAC blackout is a close second but still not as efficient as the vortex. If weight isn't an issue the ATRS eliminator is an excellent choice, way better than the flaming pig gimmick, and the eliminator is canadian made.

The A2 has been inferior to other devices in the market for a while now. Even on a carbine length AR it throws too much flash for me to even consider keeping one.

Do you have photophobia or something?

You're experience with the A2 is quite a bit different than mine, and I exclusively shoot a 10.5".

I have never once had an issue with flash being "too much for me" using an A2, including the low light course I took last year. It's not distracting, blinding, or a huge fireball, as Ive read so many times on this board.

A lot of the top AR shooters/instructors in the US are going back to the A2, simply because it works. They are finding that spending upwards of a hundred $ isn't worth it when the 10 bucks A2 works and comes standard on most AR's.

I pulled my A2 off and tried the PWS Triad on my 11.5. I shot like crap and when I got home the device was chipped on the inside. An old problem that has probably been addressed, but that doesn't change the fact that I found muzzle control to be better with the plane jane A2. Money wasted...

What I mean to say is, for the amount of flash and concussion the A2 has there are better devices out there that hide flash and compensate. It's not that it's overwhelming either, especially when I shoot my 14 inch 12 gauge shotgun, exclusively. YMMV.

My shooting partner has a SEI Vortex on his AR, I have a standard A2. We were at a night shoot back in October, and I can tell you that Vortex is nothing short of AWESOME. 99% of the flash was gone... If that's what you're going for, look no further!

Nothing beats SEI for flash suppression.

Not according to controlled testing. I have personally taken part in a controlled shoot-off that included the SEI among many others and the ATRS LFE did better and provided effective compensation. YouTube ATRS to see the tests. As a bonus it is made in Canada :)

I like my old original 3-prong.

The griffin m4sd II, battle comp, aac brake out.

Sorry, you just won't get the flash suppression an A2 provides with any of those. The trade-off is improved compensation.

With longer barrel lengths, 14.5" and above, I would consider any of the comp/brakes on the market. Anything shorter, I'd just stick with the A2.
