about 7 years ago I sold my classic green, at the time it was non restricted. I recently have started looking for one again but have been told they are now restricted. When did they get reclassified?

Only the Classic Green rifles with barrel lengths of less than 18.5" are restricted, your "Non-restricted" rifle is still just that.

being non restricted and with no registry, how would they plan on rounding them all up? hopefully it doesn't happen, but I really cant see everyone just handing over their $3000 rifles to the rcmp to be destroyed. Seems the proper thing for them to do would be to leave it alone or at the very least create another prohibited class.

Yup, at this moment still non-restricted, or restricted based off of barrel length. Folks have even rebarreled CQB and Carbines with great reports in weight savings and choice of barrel type if the rifle length isn't your style.

Speaking of which if you're looking to go with a non-restricted carbine I have a gas tube currently for sale (comes with free take off barrel).

Also to feed the rifle I have 5/20 SAN mags at near Norinco prices. Funny what a market panic does to prices around here, these mags should be selling for +/- $85 ;).

Sad to say, but we as gun owners have become scared sheeple too. I guarantee you 98% of people would go turn in their 3000$ rifle without compensation if faced with turning into a "paper criminal".

Without offering compensation I don't think that many people will comply, if each individual owner is not notified of the status change of their rifle what law can the crown say you broke?

Without the registry that feat will be impossible. If they offered fair compensation I could see most people turning them in since they could just buy another non restricted with the money rather than dealing with a "paper crime"

I think I may play the Game and sell my AR, save some cash and pick up a Swiss. Might be a risk, but I think its worth it. The Swiss with the NEA Lower and a A2 Stock is one nice looking bit of kit.

like everyone said the 18.5" still is non restricted, good luck finding one new thou, I'm not aware any dealer have them in stock new, if you found any dealer have them new, please let me know too also.

Honestly they're selling used on the EE right now for prices that a year ago would be nearly insulting to the owners. Look into the few that are floating around used and give them a good re-homing :D.

You mean like this? :)

RCMP are full of it. Merry Christmas, Swiss Rifles aren't being reclassified, if they were, then it would have happened by now, remember the RCMP gave a deadline for information that was over 6 months ago, and still nothing.

Yeah I know, just got a minty cqb off EE for just a little over 2k, I have a Carbine on order with wolverine because they have a sale on, all I need now is a NR 18'5

Ever heard that ignorance is no excuse for the law. If they do get reclassified then simply saying you didn't know won't get you out of trouble. You would be charged with possession of a prohibited firearm.
I think they would have to send out a letter to everyone with a valid PAL and give a reasonable amount of time but it wouldn't be that difficult for them to do.
And why the heck would you want another prohib class? You like the idea of having a $3000 rifle you can't ever legally shoot again? Nice wall hanger though.
