coyote scope

9 power is plenty up to 300 yards on a coyote in an actual hunting situation. If your gonna strech it further on bedded or 'posing' dogs beyond that, yeah, step up the power. Anyone that tells you 250 or 300 yards is easy in an actual hunting scenario hasn't been coyote hunting. 9 power is more than enough scope for 300 yards (actual measured yards). Thats why they say to never hold 'off fur' for a coyote you think is beyond your maximum point blank hold. They always look waaaay farther and you'll shoot over his back.

Thanks for the help.
Im still looking and think Ive decided to go with a vortex in 4-16.
Thinking if I get exposed turret I can play at longer distances at range also.

I use a vortex 4-12. Low mag is needed for moving targets and the ones that sneak up on you. I would get one without a parallax adjustment or side focus as it's just another thing you have to fukc with when you're trying to get off a shot. I fully believe that for 95% of Coyote hunting conditions a 4-12 with fixed parallax at 100 yds is the perfect tool. 12 power gives you enough zoom to make ethical shots at acceptable ranges. If you need to zoom in more than that to hit an animal in the kill-zone you should probably re-think your range..

Just my opinion! I use a .204 and using the factory hash marks I am pretty accurate to 450 yards or so. However I will only shoot within 300 because that's how far I can be 95% sure I'll connect where I want to.

have a look at the new Sightron SIII 1-7X24 IRMOA reticle.

The low mag really works well for moving or close targets. The 7X is no problem to see and aim at small targets at 500yds.

The reticle allows for fast and easy adjustment for elevation and windage.

The lit reticle acts as a red dot in low light like heavy cover.
