I've been looking at picking up a polymer pistol lately. The H&K P30LS in 9mm has caught my eye. It's the SA/DA Ver3.

Can anybody give some personal experience with this guy? I've tried the H&K USP and it wasn't all that comfortable. I've tried a couple Glock's and found them not to be that comfortable either.

Let me know what you think, good or bad.

Thanks

I bought one a little over a month ago, beautiful pistol and probably the most comfortable pistol I've ever held. It's and HK so you know it's a quality piece, my only gripe with it is the trigger takes some getting use to. It's the usually heavy DA and the SA action has a lot of take up and a long reset.

I bought one when they first became available. The pros: very accurate, light recoil and very good ergonomics. The cons: it requires a break in period to function reliably and the paddle mag release that takes some getting used to.
Mine took a couple of hundred rounds before I could trust it to function all the time. The recoil spring seems to be very robust and I had several FTE's and had the rounds that were ejected coming straight back and hitting the top of my hat. When I checked the H&K forums this seemed to be a common complaint. It works fine now but maybe because of the initial "problems" I just never warmed up to the pistol.
There is nothing wrong with the pistol, I like the LEM trigger and it is well built with great fit and finish. I found it to be very accurate right out of the box as well. I would suggest that you try one, if you can before buying.

I had all kinds of pistols and makes and brands, last, I decided to try the p30. The first hk I bought and it was the DA/SA.

I liked it so much that at one point I owned 3 P30, I loved the Da/Sa but sold it after trying LEM.

Now I own 2 P30, LEM and are my go to guns for everything I shoot whether it is IDPA, IPSC (which I do not shoot often) or anything.

Never had any issues with the paddle release nor needed time adjusting/getting used to it, it worked awesomely from the beginning.

I really recommend it.

Here is a video I made when I show the difference in operation of the DA/SA vs LEM.

Cheers.

Most comfortable gun you will ever hold in your hand, the adjustable hand straps make it so it can fit pretty much any hand. Probably one of the best looking guns along with the HK45 in my opinion as well.

Best handgun I ever had, the ergonomics are perfect. The paddle mag release is beautiful. At first the trigger feels different but right I was shooting better, then I got used to the trigger and was even better.

I have the V1 LEM version...love it to death. Definitely the most comfortable grip in the biz, and you can set it up however you choose to, via the interchangeable backstraps and grip panels. The trigger is not as bad as it is made to seem. I personally have never had an issue with mine.

The pistol is nice and "slick"...no decock button at the back of the slide, and no redundant safety lever...I could never get used to it, but that's just me. I never understood the idea of a safety lever, and then a separate decocker...hence why I opted for the LEM model. Definitely a keeper.

It is by far my favorite polymer frame pistol, a lot more comfortable to shoot than USP and glocks.. Very well balanced and accurate.

its a no brainer, get one.

How does the SA trigger feel in general? Is it a pretty clean break or is there some creep to it?

It's not a 'target' trigger if thats what you're looking for. There is a lot of travel to the trigger and a few mm of creep before it breaks. I prefer to roll the trigger through the break and have no problems shooting accurately.

I had the LS model, but I prefer the V3 L (I have never tried the LEM versions). I found that my high grip was not as good with the LS, but I grip very high so it may be different for you.

I had a v3; I wanted to love it, but I couldnt. Holding it, dry firing - most comfortable pistol Ive encountered; but when shooting it, my high thumb grip was incompatible. No matter what, my thumb would contact the slide release and that gun would not lock open after the last shot. Yes, I could change my grip and lower my thumb, but it wasnt as comfortable or as accurate. Ive never been more dissapointed in a gun than I was in the P30 - because it was a great gun that I wanted to love, but we wernt made for each other.

the good thing about this pistol is that you can choose which configuration you want by swapping out a couple springs.

You can also go from V3 to any of the LEMs by doing the same although this modification is not supported by HK, the result is a V0, a variant that is not offered in North America and only available in Europe for certain agencies requiring a decocker. I don't see why someone would want a V0 though, but at least you have the option.

Mine are V1, and I really really like the trigger. Very accurate for a combat gun, I can go from a Glock to LEM no problem.

No problem man, shoot me a message if you have more questions.

I forgot to add that none of my pistols, all new, didn't need any break in period whatsoever, and none of them had any malfunctions. No light primer, no stove pipe, no FTF, FTE. NADA, cero, nothing.

Good luck

The only gun I like better than that is my HK 45 and they are both never sell guns. The only thing is that my P30l only likes hot loads, but that isn't an issue for me so I won't be farting around with the recoil spring

never had issues with light loads in my P30, that is the only thing I shoot. Light loads being 2 grains over the starting point for FMJ.

I have shot factory as well, no problem...

You might want to check your overall length maybe? I had 2 malfunctions once, on the same range outing, and that was when I tried to feed 1.150 (hollow points and round nose) but brought it down to 1.125 and never had that problem again. The stepped chamber of the P30 is very forgivable.

The gun was new and that was 3 thousand rounds ago. So I guess I got it right.

I have tried 1.135 and 1.140 ish, and never had problems either, but I keep it at 1.125 because my press (Dillon Square Deal B) it is not consistent when setting the bullet down. When set to 1.125, I get 1.120 to 1.128, not every bullet is the same.
I wish it was consistent but it is not, and a 5 change will not make a difference when the min for 9mm is 1.000, so anything above 1.100 is more than safe.

Cheers.
