Best bang for the buck in 22-250?

I love me a tikka T3 Varmint, but at nearly 1000 bucks it's pretty expensive.

The gun will see, coyotes, gophers, and targets. So heavy barrel is probably a good idea?

Is a Rem 700 SPS varmint a good buy at 650?
Or the savage 12 fcv varmint at 800?

Or maybe I don't need a heavy barrel? Make things even cheaper.

It's almost too bad the Mossberg MVP varmint doesn't come in 22-250 as I actually enjoy the stock on it, the trigger leaves a little to be desired though. But 550 bucks is a great price, almost good enough to convince myself to buy a 223.

Wife bought me a weatherby vanguard s2 in 22/250 for x-mas, very afordable, great trigger, good feel and shoots incredible.

I don't like them myself because the stock doesn't suit me, but if that doesn't apply to you the best bang for your buck is the Savage Axis.

Ruger American! Stainless version is coming out in March but the current version is, imo, the "best bang for the buck"!

If you plan on doing a fair amount of shooting in a short period of time like gophers or target, go for a heavy barrel....the sps varmint in stainless would be a good start. Have fun!

Marlin XS7 VH. Extra long and heavy barrel is no good for walking around with but great on a bipod or benchrest.

misread a little bit at first. If heavy barrel is a necessity,the savage 10xp predator is awesome(i have one) but on the heavy side. Heard good things about the marlin x7 varmint series but anything in a marlin x7 bolt i very scarce right now. The h&r single shots have a following and come in both barrel configurations.

I would say an SPS but not at $650. That's crazy for an SPS. There are always good deals on an SPS. $400-$500 new.

+1 on the Savage Pred 10. I have one in .243Win & my boss liked it so much, he bought one in 22-250. Both shoot extremely well. Yes they're a bit on the heavy side, but they are robust & will take a ton of field abuse.

My vote hands down would be the weatherby S2. I love the 2 stage trigger, its stupidly accurate and well made. Hold one in your hands compared to some other "bang for your buck" rifles and it actually feels like there is quality and worth well beyond the 500 ish dollar price tag without even shooting it. I love my S2 22-250, picked it up on sale when they first came out for 499.00.

I have to agree with the Weatherby Vanguard S2. As mentioned above, the two stage trigger is awesome and the gun is amazingly accurate. For the price of a round 500 bucks I don't think you can go wrong. I prefer the stock and trigger on the S2 over the more expensive Tikkas. I bought one used a couple years ago, tossed on a Bushnell 6-18 x 50mm scope and have never looked back.

When I first started hunting Coyote I had a Browning A bolt varmint stalker which had a medium heavy barrel.

That gun was very accurate but would get heavy lugging it through the snow and woods.

My Predator guns take a beating and are subjected to a lot of harsh conditions.

Somthing fairly light and not expensive is the way to go in my opinion. Stainless might even be a good option if you are ok with not having a completely camo rig

Somthing like a savage or TC venture would be a good choice. Most of the nice ( expensive) guns I have owned have been range guns and safe Queens. Why beat up a nice gun out in the woods when you can get light , inexpensive and accurate guns.

.22-250 is a great caliber choice.

+1....and even better if you can get it in a standard weight barrel cause that biotch is heavy. Really nice rifle though. Cheap, accurate, great trigger.
