Ultimak M8 VS. SHG m14.ca ???

I had to modify the M8 so that it would fit my standard weight SEI barrels...
NO modifications required with the SHG.

Interesting. I had to remove materiel from that exact area on my SHG so it would fit an lrb standard weight barrel

The SHG is designed directly to fit a properly dimensioned standard profile barrel but the steel straps are designed to take up significant variation in barrel circumference. In some of our installation samples, we fit SHG's to barrels that varied to .020" in circumference one to the other without modification. Photos of your LRB installation would be welcome. As shown in the above photos the M8 rail's modifications resulted in the top rail cut through, exposing the barrel below. The SHG should not require a modification of this type, ever.

No pics, and I don't want to take it off as it takes a while to put back on.

But, the top-rear of the rail would not sit flush with top of the receiver ring no matter how I strapped it down. The rail would always sit an 1/8" or more higher than the receiver ring. After messing with it I realized that the machined recess on the SHG was too far back to fit the profile of the lrb barrel. After removing some material and changing the angle where the barrel tapers I got it to fit properly.

Actually it's typically Canadian.
We are not used to being brash, loud and aggressive when it comes to anything...even business.

It's hard to ignore that a big part of America's past success comes from being a bit brash, loud , aggressive and having a "can do" attitude.

For the record I don't like being pestered by clumsy salesman in person but I don't care so much about mass advertising or opinions online or in the media.

All that aside, in this case the logical choice is the lighter kit.

The way I see it, many people have complained about the M14 and its accessories being heavy.
A Canadian company listened to those complaints and responded with modern alternatives that
weigh less than what the competition offers. A few don't like how the company spreads the word
(markets) their modern alternatives... that's fine, but allowing your emotions to prevent you from
using what you have wanted all along is what I find highly illogical.

All jokes aside, I have to say I am impressed with m14.ca. They offer direct sales to the market that supports them. Not just another company who hopes to have their dealers push their products. And atleast if you have any problems they are here to support you.

But having said that both rails look good.

Although I do like the m14.ca stuff I really do not like the pushy marketing in every m14 related thread. There is a difference between marketing and pushing it on everyone at every chance. I understand it's hard to get sales for small businesses, it just makes me want to look elsewhere. The products are good though.

Some may see it as pushy, fine. Others may see it as getting more precise info directly from the one who makes the product. Direct marketing perhaps. Maybe pushy direct marketing. I also see that he appears to be interested in the fact someone here had to do some minor mod's to make his hand guard fit his rifle. Perhaps he is looking for a bit of info in how he can make his product better. I neither own an ultimak nor a M14.ca SHG, so I have no way to compare one to the other. However, I appreciate the info given regarding the weight difference as well as the opinion of someone here who has owned both.
