Anyone order these sights for their Mosins? I read great reviews, ordered on October 9. He said it sometimes takes 6 to 8 weeks to process, it's been longer than that now, no responses to my inquiries. I'm wondering what other people's experiences have been?

I did fairly recently, so I am hoping I didn't get screwed, I ordered at the end of November...Please update this thread if you get them!!

I haven't seen mine yet and it's been a good while, I don't think he can export them anymore. Also didn't get an answer back from him.

I specifically asked him if he can ship to Canada prior to purchase, and he replied yes, so hopefully export is not the issue. How are you guys communicating? Via the website or what?

OK, so it looks like we might all get bilked. Any ideas about what we should do about it? I've contacted Pay Pal, see if I can get any love from them.

Interesting. I sent him my Mosin sight a few years ago to have modified. He never got it. There was a period of time when he said he gave up shipping to Canada. A few months later I found out he was resuming selling to Canada. I ordered a new sight with the hi viz green post. Lo and behold I got it a few weeks later. Although I ordered only one of the sight options he sent me the red, green and higher metal post for the price of one. Good guy to deal with.

Did you mention this thread? We might have a bigger impact if they realize several people have been screwed. I did send another message to see if he responds. Not looking good at this point based on what this thread is showing...Really irritating because I was looking forward to these!

Tuscani, any response from him yet? I have put in complaint with (FRAUD ALERT) and my visa yesterday, see if anything happens there. Interesting, he says wait 6 weeks to 8 weeks before asking about the product, and I noticed the (FRAUD ALERT) dispute limit is 45 days. Coincidence?

Hello,

I've not been here forever. I was contacted asking me not to advertise here unless I pay; that's fair. The advertising cost is beyond my means, though. Being here would invariably lead to mention of what I make, so I've just stayed away. It's nothing personal.

I was just contacted tonight about a sight that had not arrived. He mentioned that there was a discussion on the "main Canadian gun website" so I figured I'd hop on over and take a look.

Demand is such that the front sights are backordered 6-8 weeks. Please bear that in mind.

Now folks, there is some kind of bad communication going on here. I double-check Canadian mailing addresses before printing the labels. I have had two now come back to me after being circulated in our postal systems for around four weeks. One, the gent moved, or so the note on the box said when it came back. That was about six months ago and I've sent emails to him whenever I think about it, but he doesn't respond. I have no idea what happened to him.

The other one said it wasn't deliverable. There was no further detail than that. Again, emails are going unanswered.

I have three sights setting around awaiting answers to questions I sent to their future owners prior to confirm their addresses. Folks, I have no idea what most of the lines in a Canadian address are, and therefore can't confirm it myself.

Then there are the folks who do not order using "International Shipping". I'm waiting to hear back from a few of them now.

Back when I was shipping across the border for free, waaay too many packages up and disappeared before they reached their final Canadian destinations. Same for a couple, few folks who sent their sights from Canada to me. Some made it, some didn't.

This is when I started charging for Canadian and overseas shipping. To ship with tracking in the United States runs $1.69 (though I often insure the packages therefore spend a couple bucks more), but the minimum price I can find for shipping to Canada with tracking is over $25.00 US. I can't afford to offer free shipping to Canada. If I don't track, too many are lost. If I do track, I'd go broke shipping if I didn't charge.

So, where do we stand, as of right now?

You place your order. In the case of a front sight, it's ready in six to eight weeks. I contact you about a week before it's done to confirm your address, and then mail it. That's how it should work.

I'm finding that, in reality, it's working much differently, frustrating me, frustrating my customers to no end, and keeping me up nights (11:38pm right now as I'm trying to figure this out.)

I'm seriously considering ending all non-domestic shipping unless it's a group buy -- in other words, I'd send, say, 10 sights to one address in Canada, and the recipient would then mail them out via Canadian Post. But it's an idea that I'm only kicking around, and I can see it causing more problems than shipping to individuals (but I can also see it solving a lot more. I don't know yet.)

If the moderators will allow it, I'm going to ask that those of you missing orders contact me via PM here. I don't want to break the rules. I don't think clearing up problematic orders would be considered breaking the rules, but I just don't know.

At any rate, will you please add smithsights@live.com to your address books? This will insure that my email is delivered to you. Those using (FRAUD ALERT), I contact you through the email address listed on your (FRAUD ALERT) accounts. Trying to keep track of two more addresses per individual just doesn't work.

I'm actually glad this came up. I've been growing increasingly aggravated with the whole situation, and I see why a lot of others do not offer non-domestic shipping. I didn't want to be one of those guys who seemed to discriminate against all non-US Citizens by only shipping within the US, but I'm beginning to see that it wasn't discrimination so much as a full-time job itself, shipping internationally.

Moving forward, let's get this worked out. PM me. I'll be checking back both Saturday and Sunday.

Regards,

Josh

PM received from Sam54, and one other person.

Please include your email address, shipping address, and what you ordered.

I'm working to make this right, folks. I know it has to be asking a lot, but please bear with me while I get this mess sorted out on my end.

Thank you,

Josh

Hi Folks,

Still digging out from the blizzard.

Limited Internet, posting from an old 8320 Curve BB.

Have tried to answer some PMs but don't know if they went through.

Bugged out with the five-year-old and pregnant wife to my parents' who have a fireplace. Good thing; went back home yesterday with Dad (took a Blazer and Silverado on those back roads) and home was not yet habitable.

My shop is on this land and I brought labels with me. Getting lots done. Most current records are at home in my office.

Hope to get home by Fri latest. Saw some farm tractors stuck but others out moving snow. The driveway (1/2km) is drifted shut and am waiting to hear from a farmer friend.

Will check back. Here's to hoping this posts!

Josh

Hello,

Please let me know when you start receiving your parts. The USPS isn't doing a very good job of scanning though a few boxes are showing as scanned through the Chicago International Hub. I know they're going that far, at least, and should be scanned upon delivery.

Maybe you all can help out, too: Is there any shipping that you know of other than USPS that goes international at decent rates? Who all have you seen when you order from the States?

Regards,

Josh

I always use USPS Priority International or they don't get my business. I've never had a lost package and have received countless packages from the US. Shipping rates are cheap for small items and brokerage is included up front. The only additional fee is the rare customs bill but that has nothing to do with the shipping company. Plus they hand it off to Canada Post so I don't have to deal with dickhead courier companies who can be really inconvenient if you don't live in a major city.

OK, sounds like I've gone with the best.

As I mentioned above, we had a blizzard here and even some domestic mail I've sent hasn't been scanned until it reached its destination. For that matter, stuff heading my way doesn't show as scanned after a certain point.

I'm still confused as to why it takes two weeks for things to get from Indiana to Canada. I could be up there in a day or two.

Thanks guys,

Josh

Received my sight today, the tracking feature was nice, although as Josh said, it took about two weeks to get from the States to my post office. Anyway, very happy to have it, will install this weekend, thanks Josh!

Hello, Tuscani, who are you? Shoot me an email or a PM.

All of the sights ready to go out should have been out slightly before the 23rd of January or after the 27th of January. Between the 23rd and the 27th, my daughter was being born via c-section.

I am having internet issues due tower maintenance (I run 3g out here in the sticks) and am stuck at 3g 1xRTT speeds instead of EVDO, but that hopefully won't last long. Getting on the forums is tough; checking emails is easy -- plenty of bandwidth for emails.

Please remember, the best way to contact me is here: http://www.smith-sights.com/contact-smith-sights.php I flat do not have time to go all around the Internet checking for messages to me.

I hope I don't come off as rude when I say that; it's just that if I am to get anything done, I have to centralize communications.

Please let me know who you are and what your order is, preferably using the contact me link above.

Regards,

Josh
