Optics for my Tavor - Eotech + Magnifier vs. ACOG

Hey CGN,

I currently run an Eotech 552 on my Tavor and am debating between buying a side flip magnifier, or selling the eotech and getting an acog. I would like to take the rifle out to 200 yards and maybe some closer range work, 25 yards + so I have a dilemma. I know you can't have best of both worlds but I would like to hear some input.

Thanks

I have an Eotech EXPS2 and vortex magnifier and love the combo, especially when I discovered I could still have both eyes open while magnified. I've debated whether I'd go this route again rather than just a longer range optic plus irons and am not sure. But having gone down the path, I certainly don't regret it.

How far have you been able to shoot consistently? Is the glass clear?

there is a whole section about the optics you are talking about.

I have the Eotech with side flip on mine, like in http://www. ltwerner.com/tavor.ltwerner/sights-eotech2.phtml
I love it!

When I had a tavor I ran an eotech with the eotech magnifier. It was ok, but switched out for an elcan specter DR 1-4x. It was way better.

I would think you would be well served with the magnifier for 200 yds, I debated whether on getting one myself for my Aimpoint, but ended up getting a 4x32 ACOG to complement the Aimpoint instead, mainly just to try the ACOG. A real nice do-it-all optic is the Elcan Specter DR 1-4. Very nice 1x then flip the lever and go to 4x, I would have bought it instead of the ACOG but didn't quite feel like shelling out 2k. Even still, I'm very happy with the ACOG, super clear, nice field of view, can use both eyes open.

I have the exps 3 and g33 magnifier. Works great up close and is decent out to 100. I would be able to hit a gong at 200 most of the time but if you want to shoot a clay pigeon sized target, or just more precision work, I would suggest higher magnification.

Hmm maybe I should save up for the elcan.

I just shot 50 rds at the range today with the Elcan, and loved every minute. And as someone suggested, I tried a lot of shots with both eyes open, and found my hits were much more relaxed and there was less time needing to reset.

Is the elcan price worth the pricetag over the acog ?

It's almost double the cost of the ACOG, but yes, I like my elcan more than the ACOG. (I have both). I'll repurpose the ACOG to something else. But it really is a great scope in the 4x.

How quick is it to aim at close range on 1x. Is it slow to acquire the target or fairly quick like an aimpoint.

It is immediate at 1x, and change to 4 takes ÂĽ second. The optics and light gathering are incredible. Half the reason I love it is it is downright my sturdiest optic, because I can be rough on my guns.

I've tried three and prefer the Eotech exps3-0 with g33.

That said, I agree with redbearded, if you plan to shoot over 100 regularly you should add a higher magnification option to your choices.

I have 3 sets of eotechs + mags on various rifles, BUT not on my Tavor. For my Tavor I went with an elcan specter DR.

I have mixed feelings about my Tavor for distances of 200 yards. I have some varying accuracy reports for my rifle. My wife shoots it far better than me and she also feels the same as well. Personally I'm shooting my cz858 with far better accuracy than the Tavor. I think its a combination of 55gr ammo, the hard trigger and my shooting ability. I'll try again at 100 yards with a heavy 77 grain bullet and see if it improves much. The I'll try again with the new trigger when it comes in.
