Best 1911 for the $$$

I have a SAM 1911 military enhanced for mid $500 and so far it has been rock solid. However be careful cause I am having a hard time finding sights that will replace the ones on it. I would like to try a red dot on it but apparently no base will fit.

Got my SAM Omega 6 from Wolverine and had them put Hi Viz fiber optics on it. They are for a Springfield. They are not adj. but whoever put them on did one heck of a job. First 5 I put down range were all in 8 or better at 20 yrds. I've improved since. I think the grips helped.

I am so satisfied with it, I wil be getting a SAM Thunderbolt .45 in the new year. Probably, if I don't change my mind again. Not because it's not a good gun, but because I'm a woman, and that's what we do. The Thunderbolt is SAMS answer to a custom shop gun, and easily the equal to a STI Trojan, IMO.

If u have ever heard of Girsan the company that makes the cloned version of the 92 beretta, they also make 1911's. I would imagine that the production quality would far exceed waht has been previously mentioned. As well, try looking at Tisas, another turkish firearms mfg. Again, more than likely far better than Armscor, Norinco, and SAM

I have the Girsan Regard and you can't get the Girsan 1911 in Canada and Marstar is dropping Tisas. I love my Girsan.

I have a Tisas AKA Regent 1911 and a SAM 1911 Commander-E the quality is about the same but the SAM shoots better, the Regent seems to take a few rounds to start grouping but when it does it is good. Paid about $400 for each and over all I think they are well worth the money.

Remington R1 enhanced, mine works flawless, very smooth action, for a price of $800, that or a Ruger SR1911.

STI Spartan is great value for the money.Well fit and good quality STI internals.Has decent sights/trigger as well.Ruger 1911 also good value if you can get to examine it before you buy as the latest examples seem very loose and poorly put together.Havent shot a Remington, but the examples Ive seen seem pretty nice.

For the 700 range, definitely the Ruger. If I could afford to keep it and get a higher end 1911, I would still have it. Ruger really designed a winner. They took a while to come out with a 1911 but they did it right. They used the right amount of slide slop, MIM parts where it doesn't matter, forged where it does. The barrel to bushing fit is exceptional for a 1911 of this price because they are cut from the same stock. Unlike STIs, the MSH and trigger are metal, not plastic. It's all stainless, it's a series 70 and made in the USA.

I've never owned an STI but I have never heard anything bad about them. My next gun will be a hard chrome 9mm Trojan. I've heard many great things about this one and one retailer who deals in high end 1911s said that the fit and finish of the Trojan is as good as anything from Wilson and Nighthawk. So at least based on hearsay, my vote for 1000-1400 would be the Trojan.

From my admittedly limited experience with 1911s, the Ruger left me cold and the Remington made me want to run out and buy my own. It's on my list this year.

There's no such thing as the best with so many 1911 owners out there and so many opinions. Just go out and buy a bunch of 1911s like the rest of us, in various price ranges and makes, and decide which ones are your favourites and flip the ones you don't like. I doubt you'll be happy with just one.
