I'm posting here rather than in the general sub-forum as there are more target shooters reading here.

I was planning on joining Mission to get access to the 300 yard range. I understand that there are competition butts as well as 300m practice target frames.

Are the 300 yard practice target frames big enough for an NRA MR63 reduced 600 yard target? The paper is 35"x35".

On weekdays is it difficult to find an empty position for shooting prone?

Thanks,

Chris.

The boards at 300y should be big enough to fit a 35"x35" target. I've seen people put up targets that big before. On weekdays, finding a prone spot, espeially at the east end of the range, which is where you want to be if you're shooting at 300y is very easy.

The 300 yard Competition butts at the Range are for , club 300, and Matches only they are not to be used during general shooting , You can ** only use the 300 yd frames **, the mechanical frames are no to be used, There are carpeted prone boards on the east side of the range that you are welcome to use as long as you stack them back up and re cover with the tarp provided, the 35x35 target is a bit large for the target frames and when shooters use them they staple them to the wooden frames and that destroys them , we encourage shooters to use the standard 12 x 14 or 12 x 18 targets that fit well on the back boards and don't destroy the wooden frames. I shoot FClass and practice there with a photo copy of the ICRA 300 target on an 12 x 18 and it works well,
Hope this helps.

The Mission range is also in metres not yards. My previous range was in yards so I had to adjust. Just something to consider as at 300 you'll be shooting roughly 327 yards.

One other thing I've noticed. The wind can be interesting at Mission. I've had two different directions of wind before. Up to 100 the wind was going East then after 200 it was going West. I've seen s couple small dust devils as well. Nothing like seeing a small swirl of sand mid range. Seems to have been more variable in the afternoon than the morning.

Mission is actually 100 Meters, 200 Meters and 300 Yards to the Competition Butts - about 297 Yards to the regular target frames.

That is retarded. I've only been plinking at 300 there and had to resight in at 100 as my rifles were set for yards.

Thanks for the info though.

Rapid firing on the Rifle Range is not allowed,( IE shooting from the Hip, not impacting shots on a Target or Berm multipul shots in rapid succession ,)
** Controlled Semi Auto shooting is allowed **, shots must be on a target and impact the berm, a saftey screen must be in place to catch spent caseing so they don't strike other shooters.

What are the current "rapid fire" rules at Mission on the rifle range?

Hmmm. 12x14 is a bit on the small side. I shoot black powder with aperture sights. I need an aiming bull of 6 moa :-(

Maybe I'll have to send in a letter to cancel my application.

He very last time I went there my father unzipped his 60's era cooey, I opened my target type 10/22, immediately the RO came over and informed us it's single shot only, we'll have to load 1 into the mag at a time.

I knew this is not club policy and we argued a little. It was left at that so my father could sight in his rifles before his trip. Haven't been back since and do not plan on it. My membership has lapsed. That RO cost the club my membership fees and who knows how many others.

You sure it wasn't a self appointed RO? I ask because I've only never had any issues with RO's at that range. Frankly the only time I've had problems are with the types who go out of their way to seize being in charge at any opportunity. That goes for any range I've been to. The ROs have been good at Mission in my dealings.

Don't get me wrong the no sillouette rule is lame and now I know why I've had to make adjustments to my sight in when shooting 300 and then having to rezero at 100 with my Z-Plex scope. Previos ranges it was good at all the drop down marks up to 300. But overall I like the club, the range and the staff volunteers etc there have always been good in my dealings.

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely not the 20-yr old shoot from the hip, Sylvester Road a-hole. However, the last time I was there (a very long time ago), they preferred no faster than about 1 round every 3 seconds and since buying my AR-15, I haven't been back. I'd like to do some controlled, 2-3 shot bursts using my scope and all shots would be on target. Nothing dangerous or out of control. I know clubs evolve so I was curious what the current thoughts were on this topic at Mission.

That's too bad about the rapid fire rule I've been wanting to join for awhile now , might have to re-think it , I generally shoot a AICS rem7 rig , and a m14 , but I love ending the day with my t-22 ruger , I don't get crazy with it or stupid ( I'm really very safe ) but 1 shot every three seconds is a little too slow for me , I don't dump the mag but I do like shooting a little faster than that ! Nothing like a double or triple tap to start or end the day . Is this a rule they save for the meat heads of the world or is it highly enforced ?

I was a member at Mission for several years but got tired of the Fudds that run the place and didn't want any semi-autos on the rifle range at all. I even tried to organize service rifle there and after plodding along for over a year gave up when I was told they were not interested in starting another discipline amongst other issues they had. At my first executive meeting they wanted to know if we could download our mags to 3 rounds total to conform with the shotgunners (1 round chambered plus 2 in the mag tube). I finally gave up and went to Abbotsford. Here is the thread if anyone is interested. A lot of of comments at the end of the thread are people who left Mission out of frustration and shoot elsewhere.

Honestly, I would rather find a clearing for long distance shooting than give those Fudds any more of my money.

MDRG has over 3000 members and growing , we support Hunters, Fisher men , and are active in the BCWF, We host FClass , Shot Gun , Bench Rest , Cowboy Action,Silhouette, Pistol competition , Archery etc, Members of our club were on Canada's Rife team to Ratton last year that brought a silver medal back home, our Fclass and Bench shooters are amongst the best in the world, we have the best facility in the lowermainland for competing and practising the various shooting diciplines, We pride ourself in providing a safe and enjoyable place for folks to come out and shoot.

The involvement of the club in competative shooting is the biggest thing that interests me in the club. To be honest, a rapid fire rule suits me just fine. The majority of my rifles are single shots :)
