Hi all,
I did a search and a brief scan through the FAQ's, but didn't see anything.
I've noticed my VZ-58 (7.62x39) is finicky about what you feed it. Specifically it seems to like North American ammo only. I'm wondering if other guys see this, or if there is something wrong with my rifle.
Fed. American Eagle - FMJ, brass case - likes it fine, completely reliable (have gone through maybe 100 rounds)
Hornady - zombie ammo (SST bullet and steel case) - likes it even more - most accurate I have tried so far (gone through maybe 40 -60 rounds)
MFS - FMJ steel case - does not like at all. Bolt would kind of stick closed after firing. Once I needed a block of wood to open the thing. Stopped shooting it after that. Ammo also seemed alot "hotter" than the Fed. or Hornady.
Barnaul (which I understand was loaded by MFS) - Periodically fails to fire. The trigger lets go and the "striker" falls on the pin, but no bang. Primer looks like it should have fired. Rechamber same round, pull trigger, still no bang. Put in another round and everything is fine again
PPU - round nose soft point, brass case - same deal as the Barnaul.
Thoughts. Do I need to replace the firing pin? the whole bolt? Headspace issue?
The cases looked ok to me (with the exception of some primer cratering on the MFS), no cracks, no crazy residue on the mouth.
Thanks
Fat
