So I've cast 4 pails of 240gn swc boolets (Llyman Mold ) for my S&W 629 44 mag. Had planed on tumble lubing.
A friend loaned me his lube/sizer , a Star Machine Works with a .4325 die.
My bullets pass through with only the spru end barely sizing...this seems large to me..?
I measured the front of the cylinder on the 629 @ .4335 and of course the bullets pass through fine.
Do I need to slug the bore ? Am I concerned over nothing ? Or will I have leading issues ?
What's your thoughts..

what is the diameter of your cast bullet? different alloys will drop different diameter/weight

And in this case, yes, I would slug the bore

Are the cast bullets air cooled or water dropped ? what is the BHN ?

The only way is to try

Light loads might lead the barrel or not

med or heavy loads might or not lead the barrel, the only way is to try and find out

I believe that sizing die (.4325) is oversized and should be 0.430 or. 431.

But I don't cast for 44 Mag so I may be wrong.

I was thinking .431 as that is what the bullets measure just above the base.
I used straight wheel weights ,some air cooled , some dropped into water . (separate batches of course ).
If I were to get another sizer ,should I buy one for the Star set up or get a Lee unit ?

go with the lee since your planning on tumble lubing them. lube them first, run them through and then relube them

if you have 3 buckets? (what size bucket?) i would strongly go for a star sizing die as you can pump them out FAST and get ###y results like this, http://www.rampartrangeinc.com/store_IMAGES/bullets_1040_200_GR_FP.jpg

then you don't have to tumble lube, but if you want quicker and easier (ugly IMO) then tumble lube and use a lee sizer.

Those Are pretty ! I have 4 Big Timmy's Coffee cans of 44 , & 4 - 1 gal. paint cans of 45 (Colt)
Tumble lubing is fast ,easy & effective .that's all. Not going to gas check them so I won't be hot rodding, just wanna shoot more for less .
