Looking for an scope :)
I mainly shoot at the range, so it doesn't need to be well suited for small game hunting (though that's always a bonus).
Everything between 25y to 100y is the plan, in various positions (bench, offhand, prone, sitting)

I've been considering the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 EFR, and the Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 AO, based on word of mouth.

Are there some other scopes in my price range ($200) that are worth considering? Or bad things about the ones I'm looking at?
I don't want to buy used, so no Leupolds I guess... :)

My choice and starting to switch out my others scopes for these as well.

Whatever scope you get, 9x at 100yrd target shooting isn't enough for a good sight picture on the target. Have a Mueller 8-32 target but haven't used it enough yet. Seems to be clear even at high power. The only Vortex I have is a Diamondback, again very good glass. These are somewhat higher price but you pays your money for optics. Also have a Tasco 2.5 -10 Varmint/ target. It does work but the lower cost is evident.

I agree with metalbender. I have the Nikon prostaff 3-9 BDC150 rimfire on my 10-22. It is a really nice scope for the money (very clear) but I wouldn't use it for any serious target work beyond 50 meters. Another thing to consider is the large diameter of the eye piece and the thickness of the recticle. I used to have it on my CZ455 but the scope had to be mounted high in order to provide enough clearance for the bolt. Overall I love Nikon optics; great value for the money and a great choice for a med priced rimfire scope.

Thats what I have noticed also, it used to be good enough, but I find that it doesn't cut it as good anymore, I'll be switching to something else before long with a better sight on target.

You can find them a HIRSH PRECISION. Mounted one on a Z-5 in wmr and its one of the best scope i mounted on a rimfire. NOTHING to complain about it. Very happy i ve tried it. I had to take off the sight blade because of the AO.

me and my buddy both run NC star scopes he bought one its a 1.5-6x42mm on ruger 10/22, I used it and had to have one as well i bought the same its actually very impressive (never thought id say that) holds zero and was under 100$

have two S1 3-9x40 with a german 4 not that bad but honestly on our 22s the simmons 4x works great for our needs ... and they lasts.
I agree. I have a Simmons 3 - 9 x 32 AO 22 Mag scope on my .22WMR Browning T-Bolt and I'm perfectly happy with it. Cost me $80 and it's more scope then I need really.
I found that it was more important to find out which ammo the rifle liked. After that she's been a tack driver ever since.

There are many good scopes out there from many good manufacturers.II'm partial to the Weaver classics.
In my oppinion, if 9x isn't good enough for you at 100 yards, I wouldn't be wondering about the scope, but my eyes.

i use a vortex 1.75 -5 diamondback. its great it sits on my 10/22 i have shot it out to 200 yards with good success (hits on clays 2 out of 5 ) most of my shooting is under 50 yards i find the 5x perfect for this
