Hello all, just looking for feed back from those who own or have owned one. The rifle is is realiy nice shape except for some bluing loss which i plan to rectify. I had the stock off of it and discovered it has a pressure point at tip of stock. An online search tells me they have easily adjusted triggers. I am planning to bed the action and free float the barrel. Yes? No? I really like the fit and finish of this rifle and not too heavy.I took it out and fired it a couple of times and not too bad on the shoulder for having no pad on it.How are these rifles for accuracy? I understand the take rem 700 mounts which i have a glut of.

I have a howa 1500 Lightning (.300winmag), a Howa 1550 deluxe (.30-06) And a Howa 1500 in .223
I have to say, accuracy is the best of all my rifles (All 3 are stock, but are my best bench guns of the many that are not modified in any way , and all are shooters (biggest group of the 3 comes with the .300winmag) and those I can easily keep to .950" on a shytty day. I keep an eye out for any and usually scoop them up when I can. They are awesome in every way, and they all are as smooth as any of the Tikkas I have owned. Never a single problem, and the .300wm has been hunted HARD. I love the build quality, and they are the gun worlds best bargains. I should erase this post actually, so that I don't let the word out. I hate opening others eyes to my little discoveries. I always end up losing out on guns because of my big mouth.

Before bedding or free floating the rifle give it a go, sometimes dead stock rifles can surprise you , for instance I bought a cheap 223 for a build but it shot so good with the factory tube and stock I left it alone except for adjusting the trigger. I agree the Howa / Vanguard / S&W rifles are a little known gems.

Wow, a mossy. The 1500 family has been produced for a lot of brands but you don't see as many of the old Mossberg ones. I would only suggest you look into the recall fo
r the bolt mod if it hasn't been done. Other than that the 1500 has always been a great value.

I do not understand your thread title? I know that the Howa 1500 is the Weatherby Vanguard or vice versa... but it would be "news" to me that the Mossberg bolt action is also a Howa 1500... if so which Mossberg models are Howa 1500's??? The MVP???

Nope, Howa branded 1500's for mossberg in 86-87. The Howa 1500,S&w 1500 and mossberg 1500 are the same rifle.Add in the weatherby vanguard to that mix

I just checked my serial number and it does come under this recall.I just emailed Legacy Sports for info and direction. Thanks. The recall has to do with the bolt sleeve.

my buddy has a S&W 1770 hunter model in 30-06, I put $1000 on the table at the camp one day to buy it and he said no way, not even for $2000, and he only paid $350 for 15 years ago, same as the vanguard, very good rifle, he has taken 4 moose with it

The Mossberg 1500 was the re-branded Howa 1500. These haven't been imported by Mossberg since the 80's. The MVP is unrelated.
Smith & Wesson also briefly imported the line with their own name prior to Mossberg picking them up.

I just got off the phone with legacy international and found out my bolt wasn't done yet. They are sending me a package to put the bolt into and send back for repair.
Cool. I had one done what must be almost a decade ago now when Weatherby prompted it. Iirc it only took about a month. It prevents improper reassembly of the bolt, I never had that is problem but I guess some folks managed it.

As others mentioned the 1500 used to be sold as mossys and s and w guns here in north america. In the rest of the world there are even more brands. I would guess only Howa knows how many companies they have made them for over the years, but a dozen wouldn't surprise me. Besides the better known ones they also did batch runs branded for companies like Churchill, RWS etc.

Howa 1500's have a long record of being superb value for money. My howa 20" varmint .308 is extremely accurate and is well made.

They replace the striker and shroud iirc. Makes so you can only insert the shroud into the gun one way. The new ones have external humps so the shroud can not be misalligned with the sear groove in the receiver.

I received my package today from Legacy international to send my bolt in to them for recall and had to pay $42.18 in customs fees for an empty flat box and a tag to affix to the bolt. I called Legacy to get an explanation and was told the warehouse guy inadvertently placed a value of $200 for customs on an empty box and all they offered was to send another package with no value assigned to it.I asked how that would help and they didn't have any plausable explanation. I still have to pay to send this package to the warranty center in the US because postage is only covered within the US.

You can send in a claim to customs for your money back. I have had to appeal an item or two in the past.
