Buck ... I know guys have shot LR with 10 power/open sites for 50 - 100 years but we are spoiled with fantastic high power optics in this day and age and im used to shooting 1000 plus with 22x ... have you stretch your little NF out 6 - 800 yards ? if so how was it ?

That's the yardage I have my sights for with this new scope
 
Thanks, looking forward to the seeing the pics. What are you putting on for a new barrel? Have you checked out proof research carbon wrapped from ATRS? I have one on a 223, you get the light weight of a thinner profile barrel, and the stiffness of a thick barrel for repeatable shots if you get it hot.

No I have not actually , I don't usually but im going to use corlanes right now because they have a very good 300wsm reamer. Also corlanes is going to machine my receiver to accept a a longer mag box so I can seat higher BC bullets without feeding issues, ATRS said they would not do it.It although typically not my first choice but im likely going to a #3 packnor on account my buddy just had the exact same set up built there and he's getting 3000fps wit a 180gr barnes with that packnor and corlanes reamer ... those numbers are staggering for a 300wsm with a 180gr in my opinion.


Oh and scope is on my rifle ... pics to come in the next 30 min
 
Sooo ... here it is , waited so long the excitement actually wore off. But its nice ! ... first thing I noticed right off the bat is obviously ... its heavy. My rifle is gonna around 7.5 with the strap and rings at this point , I know it will be. But I will be dropping a quarter pound on the barrel so 7.25 wont be bad for what this little rig is going to be capable of.

The first 2 major up side things I notice about this scope other that the obvious, is it performance in low light, the sun is dropping here right now and ive been looking out the window at 600+ with it and it is nice for only being 10 power, the 42mm main obj and the high end glass is a big step up from the old leupold 4.5-14 that was on the gun before. The second thing is the throw lever. Ive never used one before, What a great feature. I can tell its going to be great in the field.

Being able to program my data into a my G7 and dial shots out too 600 yards with a mountain rifle means a lot to me. Definitely worth the extra 6ozs. I already have a jewel trigger in the rifle, tuned down to about .5 of a lb... just how I like them. Now that the rifle is out of the cabinet with the scope on and ready for a new barrel im having second thoughts about not replacing the stock. Im going to phone McMillan tomorrow and order the " Remington hunter " in edge. That would be the sporter stock that is the same shape as the Sako stocks cut out for the short action 700. Not sure the color. It will be black with grey web or OD green with black web. Likely green with black.

Being the stock will likely take 6 months and I have knee surgery yesterday I have some down time so I probably wont take the gun apart or send it away for a bit, so a range report will likely come sooner than later.

Very sweet rig! I've been considering swapping to that scope from my g7 nightforce, which I love but would lighten up by almost 10ozs. Here is my rig in a mcmillan HTG with edge fill. How much weight would you save with an edge fill stock?

Loving the kit ... cant wait to shoot it , just a gem. Looks great next to my NXS 250 5.5-22x50 w/zero stop and high speed turrets on my custom 7rem mag

Have the best of both worlds when it comes to NF IMO

Very nice .. I really don't think I will save any. The stocks that come on the Ti's are light. On my 7-08 700 ti ive weight the stock with pillar bedding , recoil pad and sling screws ... was 24 oz's
I belive my Alaskan ti will be right in that range maybe plus an OZ. I think the rem hunter edge will also come in at about 25oz's all bedded and recoil pad. Its more I want the drop on the hand grip and just a little stiffer stock. More astetically pleasing. nicer over all feel. I like the straight comb at the top of the butt on the factory rem, its nice and level with the back of the bolt ... no drop , just dont like the length of pull or the hand grip. IM 6'3 and LONG arms. I figure ive come this far and this rifle is going to be the all around go too , becomes one with me rifle ... I might as go all out. This rifle will do what it does until the day I die ... no question.

I should easily get $250 for that factory stock if not $300 when the time comes. That should get my Mcmillan to the front door out of pocket with edge for around $500 more out of pocket + bedding job

This rifle will be dumping mule deer from 500+ yards from the truck and high on the ridges hiking , Blacktails in the heli slashes and alpine ... Sheep in the steep canyons. Its the all arounder for me. I have plans in the coming years for this gun

What does your rig weight without that scope ?

Cloud peaks gunworks portfolio has great custom #### on it. I was looking for a pic of a rifle done with the " Remington hunter " but never seen one on there right now. Lots of A3 sporters ... I currently own one with out edge on my other rifle and LOVE it ... super star sporter stock. I may just order another one with edge.

I'm very impressed with the htg. The ergonomics are great, and I can't believe the finish on it. Almost unscratchable.

As you see it with claw sling, four flush cups, atlas bipod, devcon stainless putty bedding, atlas bottom metal, and the g7 scope 9lbs 4ozs.

The scope is rated at 31ozs, the bipod is 13ozs with the rail and bolt I used. If I had your scope, minus the bipod, I'd be sitting at 7.5lbs

There is a guy in central BC that is butchering rem 700 actions , supposedly with out compromising the strength ... getting them as light as titanium 700's. I have a friend that has one and its incredible. I forget his name and its a long wait but ...

Great set up! Those talleys lightweights look good too!

Shooting groups at 600+ yards with a 10 power scope isn't ideal but shooting at deer is doable especially with NF's fine reticles. Having that parallax adjustment will also help.

I have had a 2.5-10 on the back of 338 Win shooting at night in Africa, right through to killing antelope here. It is a bit heavy, but the guts are very repeatable.

Here is a pic of mine with a Remington Classic stock.
 
Awesome ... I think once I get used to it , it will be fine. Nice rig ... looks really good , so glad NF is coming around with these somewhat " compact " scopes
 
Some very nice guns! I also dig the Remington Classic, but the barrel channel can't handle the varmint profile on my carbon barrel (it's closer to sendero contour, I had to do some sanding on it).

That A3 looks great too, what fill does it have? It sucks that you can't get the molded in colors with the edge fill.

I would be interested in seeing a reduced weight action and what they are doing.

There are some great titanium actions out there, eg Pierce. Also have a look at Xtreme shooting, they have a titanium short action that is just over 9 ounces without a bolt at X-tremeshooting.com. They also carry the CG Jackson 2 stage trigger that I have on my gun.
 
Its just a standard A3 laid glass ... quite heavy , Just bought a Mcmillan Remington hunter with edge from Corlanes this morning. They had one in stock that someone ditched yesterday. Already paid for it. So my gun is going to be rebarreled with that stock in a month. pretty sweet , Super happy , cant wait to post this gun rebuilt with that scope on it and get it to the range

Was gonna go back to another A3 sporter but the 4 to possibly 6 ounce weight increase, even with edge ... I cannot justify on this rifle
 
IIRC the Game Scout with Edge fill is about 28oz. That design looks like a nice compromise.

If it's going to take a month or two, you should send me your scope to hold into....
