Functional piece of art 1911

The new ones are for the most part better built anyway, according to Hilton Yam.

Just like with S&W and Bangor Punta, Colt's Series 70 era wasn't some sort of golden age that it is perceived to be by some today.

Would tend to agree to a certain point - However, that said, I would still take a minty original Series 70 Colt over a NIB Series 80 all day long, though.

The one's I actually prefer most are pre-Series 70 Colt Government & Nat'l Match 1911A1's.

Like my 1968 mfg Colt Government Model 1911A1:

Not that I would even consider doing anything more to it that just keep it stock.

oh. that's hot.

Do you have any pictures of it with the hammer cocked and the safety on?

You mean "arch your back, wet your lips" kinda photography?

.....lol....

No, and those pics above aren't the greatest either. Gotta take some better ones.

The pre-Series 70 guns from the 50s-60s would definitely be my choice if I were to pick a golden age:
-Better metallurgy than earlier models
-No collett barrel bushing
-No extra Series 80 parts
-Generally good build quality
-Nicely finished

These days, they are best reserved for collecting, as examples that are usable as project guns but not collectable are rare.
