New S&W model 66 with Canada 4.25" barrel!

S&W Model 66 with 4.2" barrel for Canadian market....

Should be a good one!

It's listed as being 3.1-ounces lighter than a 686.

Not sure which I like better though. **Scratches Chin**

They also list a Model 67 ( in 4 inch unfortunately), one of my all time favorites along with the Model 15 of course. I just wish they still came with a nice
pair of the good old S&W wood stocks.

Still have my Model 64 and the wood stocks are just so much nicer to look at.

While I prefer the larger N frame S&W's, it would be great to see a short 4" bbl restricted K frame M66 with bead blast finish. It will be a smooth handling .38 shooting revolver with the possibility to shoot some full house .357 Mag occasionally though recoil will be pretty sharp out of a 4" K frame.

The old Model 66s were a little beefier (best term I could think of) then most K frames, but I do agree that the 357 Mag is pushing the comfort zone in that frame. The .38 Special is ideal for the S&W K frame revolvers, especially the K-38's like the Model 15 and 67.

You are right, so is 66 as far as I understand. Original 66 never had problems like 19, but it's nice reassurance in terms of durability.
Hopefully all the MIM parts are quality as well...
Given those are the same gun just different steel, are you say the problems with the older K frames were only found in some non-stainless editions?

It might be the case that the stainless steel barrel has superior resistance to flame erosion of the forcing cone than carbon steel. If it is the case that barrel/frame cracking at the bottom of the forcing cone really is less of an issue with the 66 versus the 19, that may be an explanation.

At any rate, full-house .357 loads in a K Frame are pushing the envelope and I would choose something else for that sort of thing in high volumes. I am feeling a case of the wantsies coming on for this gun and I would likely mostly just shoot .38 through it because I have lots of .38 brass and I have a .44 Magnum for when I want to shoot heavy loads.
