How would you expect a used restricted item be packaged for mailing?

Just curious as i know how i ship them but maybe i have unreasonable expectations.

Would you expect it to be in a case (maybe locked if private sale), or just rattling around in a cardboard box? What has been your experience when receiving used restricteds by mail from a private sale?

thanks

Received one quite awhile back that had just been slid into a large bubble envelope. By the time it got to me, the muzzle had poked through one end.

No damage to the pistol but you could look into the hole on the envelope & clearly see the 'contents'. Just lucky on that one it didn't go missing in transit.

Personally, when I ship, it's with a trigger lock in a locked hardcase that is then sealed inside a heavy cardboard carton that itself is wrapped in plain brown paper.

I received them bubble wrapped/wrapped in paper/in a case, in a box... never got one in an envelope yet though lol

This.

Its how I send them and it's how I asked them to be sent to me.

In the original hard case. Then wrap the case in cardboard and tape the crap out of it with packing tape. Someone spent their hard earned money to buy it so as a seller I want the contents to arrive in the same condition they left in.

Pay the little extra for signature upon delivery... The last two restricted firearms I had sent to me were left on my doorstep. Not ideal.

It's not too hard to figure out how to adequately package a valuable item for postal handling, though, I often receive items packed with the bare minimum of care.

Some guns no longer have a hard case or never did.
Regardless most plastic gun cases that I've seen don't contain guns all that well and can still use some extra padding inside to keep it rattle free.
If you can shake the package and sense movement inside you aren't one packing yet in my opinion.

Signature required doesn't mean Sh!t. I've had more than a few signature required items left at the door.

I expect my restricteds to arrive wiped clean of prints, blood, DNA, filed serial numbers and loaded.
