I have a British service revolver S&W .455 2nd model hand ejector in excellent condition. With holster and original box of .455 canadian industries limited ,dominion of Canada ammo. Made in Montreal. (50 rounds) yellow box blue lettering. It was produced sometime around 1917.
I'm looking for an educated approx. value on each item or as a lot.
Thank you.

The 2nd Model Hand Ejector .455 seem to fetch in the neighbourhood of $1000 is in very good plus to excellent shape (less if it has been modified for .45 ACP). The holster and ammo might add another $150-$200. If the gun is Canadian marked you might get more, if you have provenance proving who carried it and where in combat you would definitely get more. Elmer Keith considered the 2nd Model Hand Ejector S&W to be the finest revolver made.

In good condition expect it to sell quickly if you ask for $800. If you aren't in a hurry, what Mike Webb said, you might have to be patient or that buyer might lurking right now. There aren't a lot of them being offered for sale so it's a matter of what someone can and will pay at any particular time.

Both S&W and Colt supplied large numbers of revolvers chambered in .455 to the Brits in WW1. I've always liked the Colt New Service myself, altho I don't think there is much to choose from between the Colt and the S&W. After the US entered the war both Colt and S&W supplied large numbers of both revolvers to the US Army in .45 ACP as the Model 1917.

Why do .455 caliber revolvers cost so much? This is almost strictly a reloaders cartridge these days which means there is a very limited market! To top that off .455 brass is not readily available at your local store.

.455 revolvers are collectors grade stuff, not bought by shooters, usually. Condition is everything plus the, "It's made in Canada."

Ammo is readily available as is brass. In fact there has been a big resurgence lately with all of the interest in antique Webleys.

I've seen samples that have an asking of $1000 that just sit; however, excellent (95%+) samples I see sell are in the 600-800 range. This drops off quite quickly with finish wear as 70,000ish of these were made. There tend to be of excellent quality if maintained. I've come across a few that have had the single action sear snapped off.

Would agree with holster/ ammo estimate above.

Maybe he meant the AMMO was made in Canada? Both the Colt and S&W were issued to Canadian troops in both world wars though.

FWIW, I have a nice Colt New Service in .455, perhaps my favourite revolver to shoot. It's not for sale ;)

I believe he said that about the 1st model Hand Ejector. (the Triple Lock), and I think 1000$ would be a little high for the 2nd model.

Yes, and the 3rd locking lug. The 2nd model is worth less as there were far more of them produced.

It is a commercial version, apparently 1 of about 100 made. Approx. 5 inch barrel. I bought it from the son of a Canadian Officer who wore it through both World Wars, but he was a rear echelon guy, so it was never taken out of the holster basically. He ended up as a Major according to his son (who died a couple years ago.)

Super cool! I have one of the triple locks that were made after the original run in military configuration... ...there is, or at very least was, a .455 mk 2 that would share the same number, calibre and bbl length as mine due to is being part of the regular production 44 special series that had its own concurrent serial number range. Would you be able to post the first number and a bunch of X's?
Cheers,
R

Yeah, no problem. I've been sick for the last few days, but will post in the next couple days.
