How would you expect a used restricted item be packaged for mailing?

I always take a lot of care when packaging items. Guns usually run in the several hundred dollar range, its not worth my online reputation to skimp on $5 of packaging materials.

I always keep and recycle my bubble wrap...I haven't had to buy any for years. Never had anything but compliments about how I package orders.
 
You guys are overthinking it,
here is the package for a rifle I received last week.

and it arrived in top shape.

Another time, I received a similar package with two full size Mauser rifles, wrapped in at least ten sweaters. No problem, except the guy who sent it (Alberta) must hate this year's winter. :)
 
Last restricted I shipped was with a tie wrapped trigger in a hard plastic pistol case, also tie wrapped, all in a Post Office cardboard box with lot's of packing tape. It was clearly labeled "FRAGILE-DIGITALLY OPERATED HOLE PUNCH"
 
I run an RCMP trigger lock set up (READ: Cable tie through the action and mag-well, and then cable tie the plastic box shut). I make a custom box that fits around the plastic case or rifle VERY snugly. I then use a metric assload of packing tape around the whole thing.

Haven't had anyone report packaging malfunctions yet.
 
I once received a WW2 pistol in a softcase, trigger locked then put into a custom made card board box which was hot glued all around! Took a while to carefully cut her open but it came super clean, lubed and unharmed!!
 
Like it was valuable, not to be waved from a hilltop and like the seller gave a damn. I would do no less for a buyer!

The irony of it is this, I worked in a bike shop where we had a good reputation for doing suspension work on forks and shocks. Our customers, from Alberta especially, shipped their forks across the country to us in rifle cases! Genius! And we call them Cowboys...

This shipping method made packaging to ship and return super quick and safe.

Hot glued now that's taking a good ways.. congrats to the shipper
 
From some stores, they ship the pistols in a cardboard box and then tape/wrap the box with their name on the tape itself so all over the box its like an advertisement. Not too bright in my opinion. I ask myself, why don't they just use clear tape?
