Sako quality - fact or fiction?

I bought a new Sako 85 last summer for moose hunting. The first Sako I have ever owned but played with a buddies 75 a couple of times previous. Mine is a laminate stainless and have to say that I'm pretty impressed....makes the remmy feel like a jack handle. But after saying that, the remmy has filled the freezers for years. Kinda like going from a caprice to a cadillac.

I feel the quality of today's Sakos is in line with other rifles in that price range, neither significantly better nor worse. Sure they're a couple of steps above your typical Ruger, Rem or Win, but they cost twice as much or more, so they should be. After owning a couple of 75's and an 85 I sold them, because I think that all of today's Sakos are a huge step down from the A-series guns of a few decades ago...I'll never sell mine. Pick up a clean specimen of one of those, play with it for a bit, and then try to get excited about a model 85.

I own several 75's (4 to be accurate)... I love them all. However, my 85 is lighter and more accurate and its set trigger is leagues ahead, and I found one with an exceptional piece of wood. I prefer it. Yes, nothing beats the craftsmetship of days gone by. You should see a few of my custom Mausers! :)

Just picked this one up today. 75 Hunter with a nice stick of wood on'er...

I've had 8 or 10 Sako, currently 4 75's.

If you're referring to that Bavarian that you showed photos of once...that is pretty nice. If I were going to buy a newly-manufactured traditional bolt gun today, that'd do the job for me. Of course, the Kodiak in .375H&H would also be tempting, in a clinically-functional kind of way...:)

My father had a Sako TRG in .300 win mag. That had to be the smoothest action I have ever seen. Beautiful rifle. He went and sold it without giving me a chance to buy it …. Would love to have gotten my grubby mitts on it.

Yeah, its the 20-inch barreled Bavarian Carbine in 30-06. I just love it. I have yet to go the 375H&H route, but I just can't find a rationale need for that much firepower. :)

I have own (sold) Ruger, Winchester, try my Dad's Remington 700 they were okay but the Sako 75 rifles they were like fine wine to me. They were the most accurate rifles I ever shot, smooth action and fits very well.

Enough said.

I'm in the process of putting together my rifle "quiver".

I'm very familiar with Browning firearms (A-Bolt, X-Bolt, and BLR) and feel the quality/performance/fit and finish of those rifles has been good.

I am someone who does like to own "top tier" equipment and have no hesitation about paying the premium (basically double) if in fact the Sakos are worth it.

I would appreciate feedback from past and present Sako owners.
Well, it's fact. They are great quality firearms for their price and would encourage you to purchase one. Go to a gun store/shop and handle a few different makes to compare the handling, fit/finish, balance, function etc. I own one and still have it. Great firearm!

I am a Sako lover, I have owned a dozen or so and all of them functioned flawlessly, were very accurate and all fit me like a glove.

AV's, AI's, L61(I think), 3 or 4 75's, an 85(don't like they dumped the monte carloish stock), all killed when given the opportunity. All were great at the range, all were stupid easy to develop loads for and lastly they all were very nice to look at.

My favourite brand of rifle and in my opinion worth the money.

Sako's are good rifles, nothing wrong with them. Not my pick of a rifle though. I'd rather buy a Winchester or Ruger and customize it to suit me for the extra money the Sako costs.
