26 Nosler ?

You won't shoot out the barrel any time soon by going to a heavier bullet at lower velocity but higher energy than your standard 6.5... I wonder what the "real world" numbers would look like compared to .264 WM?

Assuming Gatehouses dimensions are true then this cartridge would have virtually identical capacities to the 6.5 STW or 6.5X300 Wby, significantly more than the 264 WM but significantly less than the 6.5 RUM. Brass should be easily formed from 300 WM as I'll bet the Nosler brass is being made by Horn and will be sh!t !!!!! With modern powders it will better the 264 WM by about 100 fps in any bullet weight, possibly more with the heavier bullets. Not a must have for me, as I played with a 6.5X300 Wby years back and decided I liked my 264 WM more. The shorter slightly fatter case MIGHT be more efficient with the slow, slow powders but being so badly over bore I doubt it will be noticeable, this cartridge will be anything BUT efficient. Now necked down to 23 cal...........................;)
I'll bet the current velocity ratings are with a 26" tube and my 264 WM will do 3400 with a 129 from a 26" tube using W-W brass and IMR 7828 and I haven't even played with RL 25 in it yet. I found the 6.5X300 Wby disappointing, but that was nearly 30 years ago now and we didn't have all the powders we have today, that being said, it also applies to the 264 WM.

I was wondering about this too. In principle the .264 WM sounds neat and from what I understand it did well with H870, but that powder hasn't been available in a long time. Have you tried RL33?

Nechako Facebook says it is a rimless 404 case as the parent

The 7mm Dakota is also based on that case and it is listed at 3400fps with a 140gr bullet. I haven't used one so I don't know if that is an accurate number of not.

Nosler says it's a rimless Jeffery. I'll dig up the case diagram when I can

Well in that case (no pun intended) one could avoid the expense of Nosler brass by simply ordering a set of forming dies and a pile of Kynoch brass to reform. :)

Every time I'm tempted by the latest, greatest wonder cartridge, I give myself a slap and remember that I have been down "that road" before and invariably retreated to my relatively tame, tried and true cartridges... But "sometimes..." You just gotta scratch that itch.

I use cartridges that are fairly new (375 Ruger, WSMs) and stuff that is over 100 years old, and everything in between. If it interests me, I try it out, no matter the date of introduction. :)

Apparently its based on the .404 jeffery, as per shotshow reports...

If there is concern regarding barrel life then wait and see if Savage manufactures one, shoot the barrel out, throw away the rifle and purchase a second Savage. Total cost for 2 Savages will total less than $1,000.00.

No...get the Savage and shoot the barrel out within 1000 shots(Using factory overloaded crap). Now wind on a fresh tube in 6.5x55 Swede, swap out the bolt head and you'll be good for 25,000+ cast boolit handloads...minimum.:)

Most shmoes will tip over before they wear the prick out, but would probably kill it from neglect.:(

Well those dimensions are not that of a 404 case, they are, as Gatehouse said earlier the dimensions of the 375 Ruger...........a beltless .532 base dia.......404 case is .545, not a big difference but enough that they most certainly are not interchangeable !!!

Yeah that's the pic I saw. I'm confused as Nosler is saying that it is the .404 but the base dimensions are not what a rimless .404 should be.

Not really giving all of the measurements, but it is the same base dimension as the 375R. This one is 0.050" longer.... No mention of shoulder angle or length...
It should be fast...
85 grains of H4350, a magnum primer and a high BC 264 bullet, what's not to like?
