FN Winchesters?

Supposedly these are supposed to be the best winchesters built since the pre 64 era. Does anyone have any experience with the new FWT? I fondled one today and really liked it, the checkering was iffy and the stock colour was very red but other then that beautiful gun. Can anyone speak for accuracy of these new ones? I know they are considered the "riflemans rifle" and will only be used for hunting but I like an accurate rifle.

Sorry for asking so many questions, but I wanna get some good info before I drop $1200 (scope included) on a rifle.

$1200 on a featherweight? Mine was $765 + tax. Its 30-06 and can pretty easily pull off less then 1" at 100 yards. With some load right around .5" or less as well. I can't see myself paying the price the pre64's seem to fetch with the possibility of maybe having to rebarrel it so I picked up a new one. Very good quality to me. One of the few new rifles I looked at that actually looks and feels like its not made from recycled pop cans.
 
I've always seen them for around $800-$900 dollars, not $1200. I think they are great rifles, it will be just as accurate as any other factory rifle. Despite people's claims, factory rifles in that price range all tend to shoot about the same. All brands have gems and all have lemons and no brand really shines above any other. If your worried about accuracy, tune the trigger and bed the stock and the rifle will shoot better than you will ever need it to.

Go for it, the only other rifle I would look at sub $1000 would be a Ruger.

$1200 after a scope goes on. Cabelas wants $889 for a M70 FWT in 300 WSM. I dont get anywhere else to buy firearms so I kinda have to buy from there and im not a huge fan of ordering online as I like to "hand pick" my rifles if you know what I mean.

I compared it to a X-Bolt hunter and they are scary alike (probably b/c they are made in same factory) but like I said the checkering was iffy compared to the browning and the stock was more red then brown. I compared those 2 to a T3 Hunter and really liked the tikka other then the mag not being flush with the stock. This is more of a looks like for me then anything.
 
I have an 2011 Featherweight in 30-06...Great rifle! Not sure what you mean about iffy checkering, but the checkering on mine is nice.
As for a hunting rifle...mine has seen 3 years of tough moose hunting and I have no plans to replace it.

It would be a fine choice!

Cabelas is a rip off. They are 799 are wholesale sports and can be had for that or less form north pro sports. As for checkering mine is really nice and not red or orange at all. Looks like walnut to me.

I say "iffy checkering" as in the checkering didnt feel deep, but just barley etched in. The browning was deep, it gave you a good grip on the rifle.

This one had a red ting to it, and I even asked my buddy who was with me if I was seeing things and he said "Nope it definitely has a red tinge to it"
 
Here is my '11 when she was brand new.

One was a 270wsm featherweight that did not feed properly nor did the bolt release work. Second was a 270wsm extreme weather that had a messed up chamber that would leave spiral marks on the brass. Third was a 300 win mag super grade that wasn't bedded properly, had a burr on the feed ramp and bolt handle would close touching wood.
 
Many on this site know me as a Sako collector, and as a Remchester basher.
But even I have become impressed by the quality of the FN Winchester Model 70's.

And, according to Wholesale Spurts, I bought the last short-chambered (.308) Featherweight stainless/walnut in Canada ($950 including tax)
Apparently, Win stopped making the Featherweight stainless/walnut model 2 years ago - shame really!..
and what's left, as old 'new' stock, are a couple of .300 magnums (too much cartridge for a lightweight IMHO).

I am now so keen on the stainless/walnut look that I am searching for a factory walnut stock for one of my SS Sakos.
However, the price ($650 before tax) seems somewhat prohibitive! So, for now, I just admire my still BNIB M70. :)
 
I have an Winchester SXR 30-06. FN built. Very accurate, 100% reliable, nice trigger, nice mag system. Only complain is the wood dents easy. We call it the "Balsa Wood" lol

2012 was the last year for most. There is a 243 still as of 2014
