On the crafty scale there right up there, and most wolves surpass mature white tail bucks for being elusive. And there very fussy about the correct spelling of there name.
Wolf or coyote?
How far north are you going to go because there are (almost) no real wolves in southern Ontario anymore. They are coyote hybrids.
Up here, they weigh about 90 lbs and are smarter than you think. Had one try to entice me to follow him over a small knoll where all his pack was waiting for me in the dead of winter. I have seen them bait male dogs with the female pack members so they can get a meal. When hunting them I use a .243 Ruger bolt gun and a 12 gauge shotgun with 000 buck shot just in case all his buddies show up.![]()

Have heard stories similiar to yours and thought the guys were just slinging BS. Not any more. Man that is some scary to think what he was up to.

bearkilr; to pick up on it you must be either a retired English teacher, obsessive compulsive or both!
I used to hunt wolves on full moon nights over a gut pile. Sometimes you sit for hours before they show up sometimes it's a no show and sometimes you score. I learned to pattern them on the moon and hunted accordingly.( I am the first to admit this is shooting not hunting) And before we get into legal part I passed this with the MNR. As long as there was no artificial source of light it was fine. This was how I paid for my winter heat. This may be different in other places.
