I just noticed something interesting while I was installing my RIS II - the NSN number on the top rail appears to have a typo. I don't have my camera handy but the NSN on the top rail is 1005-01-547-264 while on the inside of the bottom rail it's 1005-01-547-2624. The NSN on the bottom rail is the correct one (I looked it up and the NSN on the top rail doesn't have enough digits for a NSN#). I know my RIS II is genuine but I just thought it was interesting. Anyone else with an RIS II have the same typo?

Thank you! Somebody else has had this same issue. I contacted Daniel Defense and gave them all the info on my purchase, vendor info, tons of photos, and had many conversations back and forth through email. I have been assured that it is authentic. The guy I was talking to is looking into it for me. I purchased another rail (RIS II M4A1 fde) from a different vendor this time. Same issue so I returned it. Seems that Canadians are getting slightly different versions than our American brothers which goes against their mission statement if you ask me... Never the less, great rail system. If you want to PM me, I'll tell you a little more about what I've found out. BTW, the rail was installed on Wednesday. It is kick ass and rock solid.

Sorry for the necro post, didn't notice anybody else had responded. I've noticed too that my RIS II looks a bit different than pictures I've seen online of the first ones released. The original RIS II appears to have more cutouts than mine does so I'm wondering if mine might also weigh slightly more than the advertised weight.

This was the reply I received from Daniel Defense.

"Thank you for your interest in Daniel Defense and our products. I apologize for the significant amount of time that has passed since your inquiry. Please Send me a few pictures of your rail system if you could. Please make sure to include a picture of the side screws as well as a picture of the helicoils in the lower rail section. I would like to take a look at the rail as I suspect it may be a fake, but can confirm one way or the other by picture. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me."

"...it is one of our rail systems. Not sure why the numbering is off, but if they sold it, I can confirm it is genuine. I will look into why the numbering is different." And I never heard back from him.

For what it's worth, I built my rifle with a RIS II that had the NSN numbers messed up and it turned out amazing. I hope this helps everyone.

We dealt with a few people that mentioned this issue when we were importing DD.

Never got an answer back from DD either about it.

Im contemplating a 12" RIS II, and was offered an explanation. The numbers are different in order to identify if the rail was installed on a factory built Rifle/Upper, vs purchased separately and built outside of Daniel Defense.

They're doing that with other rails as well(according to a shot show video), so it makes sense.
