Does anyone know how long it takes the Ontario cfo to approve an application? My interviews where completed and the file sent of to the Ontario cfo for final approval over a week ago. The online status checker has said "you have been or will be contacted in the near future" since the day they billed my visa over 2 months ago. I've got some cash burning a hole in my pocket, and a good deal that won't be around for too long. I'm hoping this license shows up soon. I was under the impression that once an application was sent to the cfo it usually only takes 3 or 4 days to be approved?

Think of them like the phone company. They answer to nobody and make up their 'policies' which are then enforced as LAW. To answer your question, your application may or may not be ready in a reasonable timeframe. Now, get back in line citizen and be silent or.....NO SOUP FOR YOU? NEXT!!! (depending on the province it could be one day or 4 weeks, yep that's about as accurate as one can be in regard to the CFO office)

If it where a free service I would find that less troubling. Being charged $80 to be dicked around puts a bad taste in my mouth....

If your interviews went well i don't see what the hold up is
From what i heard from another member in BC it goes or "unblocks" a lot faster if you go there in person if you can find the place in Ontario. He apparently went in and asked, someone checked and told him it was on it's way (miraculously) yeah right! Point is, it goes faster when you talk to someone behind a desk. I know i would try that

Actually I you were asking about transfers. Application will definitely take longer. I thing the 'norm' is around 6-8weeks. I'd start getting antsy after about two months. Gotta love the government. There's no rush because there's nobody to make them rush.

At least a week of your 2 months covered X-Mas. Civil servants weren't working for that time. I forget when the 28 day waiting period starts, but mostly it's due to them being civil servants and they'll get to you when they get to you.

my problem is I want to put a deposit on the gun, but then I have to pay the balance and provide my licence number within 30 days or lose the deposit. I'm too cheap to risk the deposit because someone misfiles my application or something. It would probably serve me best to stop window shopping until I have my licence in hand....

If it's a local dealer try explaining the situation and as long as you're ok with paying off the balance without the license in hand maybe they'll agree to keep it for you until license comes in.

I waited 110 days start to finish. Would have been longer as I moved, called them with my new address and they still sent it to my old address. New owners of our old house got in touch and saved me another delay/pain in the ass.

Good luck.

I imagine you can work a deal with the shop whereby you pay for the purchase and the store keeps possession of it until your paperwork comes in. Just explain your case, and maybe show receipts from the course to show you're not making it all up.

That would seem a reasonable solution to me - but be aware I've no knowledge if that's a legal option.

It can take anywhere from one month to one year and than maybe more 12 month for me and still dont have it...i call them every month and they say its in the process of being made.

My PAL/RPAL application was also sent to the ON CFO for final approval. I waited for 2 weeks and nothing happened. Gave them a call, apparently they just wanted to ask me to verify something. My application was approved during that phone call and arrived in mail a week after that. I could've called them sooner!

Give them a call and ask what's up.

Call 'em. Be polite. My experience has been that you'll get a positive result. I had someone in the Alberta office get the CFO to approve a transfer of my new PPQ and get a STATT out to me at about 4:50 PM MST a couple of weeks ago...

They may of tried to speak to you or not why not call and ask them since it's taken so long just explain I see it online and it seems like it's sitting their is there a reason why?

Mine took 2 weeks from time they got it till the time it got to my door. They did all the calls and interviews because I sent it in next day certified mail. It was since I got you on the phone might as well do the interview. They asked why I wanted it so fast I said I just want to make sure you got the paperwork that's all.

It starts on the day they sign for your registered letter delivery to them in Miramichi.
If you don't submit it "registered", it starts on the day they say it was delivered... -
