I fully and completely understand what it means. I am surprised so many people are suddenly at the defense of coyotes. And yes, I understand what trespass is too. This is going to tie up the legal system, probably lead to some new bi law in Langley and for what? something that never even occurred? a slap on the wrist and some sort of restitution to the neighbor for the trespass.
His defense will be that he did not know he could not trap them, he will say that he did not shoot a firearm, and that it was a mistake of the law. he will say sorry for the trespass, and that it was again, a mistake of fact that he thought he was doing the neighbor a favor as well.
On the scale of crime that occurs in the lower mainland, I am surprised this even made it to print.
 
The guy was a bonehead for trying to deal with a problem in a manner that got him into the poo.

Honestly, I doubt anybody would have been the wiser had he slid a live catch trap in beside his garage and simply dealt with any coyotes that showed up.

But setting traps on other folks property was plain dumb, and if you asked a five year old if it was a good idea, the five year old would be able to straighten that out in a hurry.

Dumarse!

The Judge will see to it that he pays the price of an everlasting education!

I had my black lab get caught in a coyote snare less then 80 meters from my front door of my cottage. They had a deer carcass in the woods with lots of snares around the deer. My wife was at the cottage and could not get the dog out of the snare. You could clearly see my cottage and my neighbors from the snares. Eventually my wife found help and after a few hours they got the dog out.

Since this trap was on my property and too close to a dwelling I called DNR. They were not very helpful at all.

If it happens again there will be one unhappy trapper when he shows up to check his traps...

I have no issue with trapping in ggeneral but trapping that close to the camps on private property with kids and dogs at our camps is dumb.

So with the case in the OP thread I hope all 9 charges stick.

Dogs shouldn't be running loose and it depends on the type of trap some just hold them there. Basicly if he got a trapping license it would of been legal you can't trap them but you can shoot them figure that one out. If they're on your land and causing problems.

The only requirement for a trapper is to tell people in the area if they're close enough that they set some traps it depends on how far away it is from a dwelling.

Now I've had problems with a coyote in my area they say if it didn't attack you to bad go away I went well here is a video of it not being scared away as I'm going hey you go away and coming up close when it shouldn't be doing that. They went o send it to us so we can see it and then they went and dealt with it they try the o if we trap that bear we have to destroy is if we trap that coyote we have to destroy it. I just reply well if you don't I will. Speeds them up allot. You can also call the city and complain as well and say it's a safety concern ect. Can't shoot were I live bylaw against it but if you look at the bylaw it's a 2,000 fine if your willing to pay that to deal with it then go right ahead if you can do it safely.

Coyotes are protected and not protected in BC at the same time that's why it's confusing read a hunting regulations they put out it explains it in that. Protected if you trap them not if you shoot them on a farm to protect live stock. No animal is protected if it attacks a person or you think it's attacking a person.

I'm with Hoyt. I also have kids, a dog, and a barn cat and would be inexplicably angry if someone was setting traps 200 metres from my house without permission.
