New Sig P320 (New CF Pistol?)

Interesting, did you hear why it ended?

Yes, not a single company wanted to give their patented pistol design to a company in Quebec to manufacture and funding was cut for the project. It happened a while ago too. There was 2 or three threads on it already on here.

Colt Canada ( aka Diemaco ) is no where near Quebec.

We can basically add this to the botched truck, apc, copter and everything else screw up's that the Conservatives are becoming ever famous for.

I hate sig but god do I hate glock even more LOL I think I will remain happy knowing I have a browning high that I can throw at my foe or beat them with lol

It is funny that actually trigger pullers in the CF choose the Sig 226. I guess you just haven't made it too their ranks to tell them the error of their ways yet and share your vast experience of what makes a good combat pistol.

I'm sorry the sig 226 is an excellent design, if slightly outdated. What options did the CF JTF2 have other than the 226 in their trials? Back on track the sig 250 is a laughable pistol with a ridiculous amount of problems for some and none for others. And the 320 looks like a 250 frame with a hodgepodge striker top put in, and then asking ridiculous money for it.

Why do you keep saying Quebec... the only DND contracts in Quebec are for crappy combat boots made by cowboy boot makers. Colt Canada... Kitchener... Ontario... Seen? Nod if you understand.

And exactly why it was canned.
The CF (most of it anyways) will continue to use the Inglis in the near future.
By making their requirement for the GSP so ridiculous, they saved millions of $$$. The fate of this program was known before it was cancelled.

The CAF and SIG have a good history. Glock would be another excellent choice. But remember, the next CF pistol will not be made by colt Canada.

This^^^ imo... The Glock or S&W or the CZ, if it had been serious, would have been good choices. "Overhaul the mags & you'll see another 20 years out of the Hi Power!";)

1. Full Size, DAO Trigger

5. Unloaded weight + empty magazine must be < 950g

9. Must not need to pull the trigger to disassemble

11. No safety devices to manipulate

13. Trigger pull weight must be consistent every Shot.

Criteria #9 is basically to disqualify Glocks or a serious dummy proof requirement so they can't be lawyer sued after somebody clearly didn't check the gun to make sure it was unloaded before attempting to dissemble.

#1 is ridiculous, especially as an overt combat pistol carried by full combat gear troops. SA guns are perfectly fine, especially when you can have an ultra safe holster that will neglect any of the perceived un-safeness of a SA gun.

#13 can bet met by SAO guns but #11 disqualifies them.

Basically that criteria disqualifies everything except the newest polymer hammerless "Glock advantage" type no-safety wonder nines. Realistically runs it down to probably 6-7 common handguns.

Seems like the CF is going the way of police officers.

No... because it disqualifies every wonder 9 out there too.

You're joking right? Trying to pin the goat orgy that is the CF's equipment procurement 'system' on the current government is like blaming the current Egyptian government for the Pyramids screwing up Cairo's traffic. The Navy's helicopters were bought - under Mulroney, the Liberals cancelled them, and paid extra to not have them to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. The Libs, NDP and CF procurement wanted to hold off on heavy lift aircraft, until Airbus turned an "artists conception" (painting) into a flying aircraft. More helicopters? How about having to go out and get some Chinooks, because the Libs decided to sell the ones we had to Holland, because 'we'll never need that capability'. Having dealt briefly and tangentially with CF procurement (thank god it was brief) I feel fairly confident in saying that until something is done about the chair polishing at NDHQ, nothing will improve - I also believe that if anyone audited the august institution of CF procurement, there'd be some hard time served.

Well for starters I said it once.

But attention to details has never been officers strong point. That is assuming you actually earned the rank in your avatar and are not CIC or a wantabe

Seen? Nod if you understand and actually have a commission

We don't need a new issue pistol, more pressing issues at this time. When's the last time a Canadian soldier used a pistol in combat anyway! I forgot, that's right, Capt Semrau did and the HP worked pretty well didn't it!! :D

Don't be surprised if you get corrected for saying dumb things. I meant ''you'' in the second plural person because this crass statement has been made twice already in the same thread. I will also translate for the benefit of the less educated among us; ''vous'' not ''tu''. My only mistake was not bothering to quote both of you. Now that I look back, that statement had already been corrected once by myself and again by another user.. it would appear attention to detail is not your strong suit either or you would have forgone making that remark yourself. ;)

My trade is 00180 and I can have a copy the CF377 from my DP1.1 mailed to you if you so desire. Feel free to look that up. Or, I can pull out a ruler and make this into an official junk measuring contest.

And since you insist on seeing my credentials, here they are:

The only one trying to measue dicks is you. Your the one trying to be all high and mighty about a mistake on the location of project that was canclled years ago.

My attention to detail is fine, I responed to a post directed at me and made a mistake on the loction. I didnt read all you high and mighty BS until you opened your mouth again.

You actually having a commision does explain a lot tho. Your welcome nit pick a mistake on the internet all you like it still doesnt make you better than anyone.

The Shooters in the CF can have any gun they want. They test them all, they looked at changing to Glock a few years back but decided to stay with the P226.
And by the way..the DA / SA system is not at all bad, just requires some vigorous training and a few thousand rounds down range (maybe not realistic for general issue troops).

InDEED! Now that the matter is settled, we can move along.

Here is the link to the Price and Availability Request for the General Service Pistol (GSP) for everyone to browse at their leisure. Copy paste into browser and it prompts you to download the PDF. Lots of interesting information and the answers to why Glocks, S&W M&P, Sig Sauer, et al. were disqualified from the onset. I believe it was posted in an earlier thread a while back but since there is a renewed interest I thought it would be appropriate to have it handy.

Huh? Hell no.
Stay with the P226? You mean stay with the HP. The SIG P226 was never in question. Since it's not the official general issued sidearm. SOF use them but other then that only a very few reg in deployment have access to those. The Browning HP is the general issued sidearms for everyone. Hence we still use it in CFSAC... Against Brits Glocks... :( Try to get a p226 for reg infantry at CFSAC just once. Good luck with that. The thing is not even in the system for ex. Not many vaults around have sigs other then the Navy.

My thoughts? Well the Brits opted for the GLock 17. We are all under the same Queen no? So then why aren't we getting the Glocks as well? BUDGET! THe whole thing is a smoke screen. I think we never really intended to get a new sidearms anytime soon. The specs they ask for a new service pistol narrow the choices to almost nothing. They are buying some time obviously.

Don't forget the MP's carry P225's. Never quite understood why they went for a gun that holds 8 rounds of 9mm.
