The last Japanese warrior...

Let's keep this in perspective. Remember how "dedicated" Japanese soldiers often treated their enemies in WWII, without a second thought, because of the racial and national supremacism that was drilled into them from birth. Some things cannot be forgotten or forgiven.

Some things may never be forgotten TJ,this is why we keep up on history,to remind of us of our trespasses..you remember that old prayer?
Not everything is meant to be taken as a threat, but to remind us all of certain things, things left in the past, things to be remembered, things and events to keep us more "civil" Yes,civil is a big word, but it's something we learn and respect. This particular scene may be viewed as a negative, but their loyalty and respect for who they fought for is nothing less than our fathers, brothers and grandfathers fought any less for.

There is a reason that the Japanese were intensely hated for decades after WWII by people who had been occupied or captured by them.

They had a competition in occupied Manchuria where two Japanese officers were seeing who could decapitate the most prisoners in a row. The Japanese war media published it to keep their morale up.

What goes around comes around - Hiroshima, Nagasaki.

Not enough in my opinion, japan got off easy for politacal reasons.
Yep. The US needed them as an ally against communism in the region. And they have been a very good ally, no doubt.

Still, there isn't a country in the region where the population doesn't hate Japan.

Our current impression of Japan is as a country of polite people who produce manga, anime, have a weird sense of humour, respect their elders, and work like dogs. I've been to Japan, and had an extremely enjoyable visit. Best vacation I ever had. My kids are addicted to manga and anime.

The impression above is not false, but for those who have roots in the region, Japan is known as a country that has tried repeatedly to conquer them, has a history of extreme brutality, and strongly believes in its superiority. It is probably the most xenophobic country in the civilized world. I have many asian friends and several family members. No one has any love for Japan.

I don't hate Japan. I'll probably go there again for a visit in the future, and I actually am learning some Japanese language. But some perspective about Japanese soldiers is definitely needed.

Beheading, bayonneting and burying live, tied up prisoners was NEVER a big problem with the Allies...No

What about the British firebombing of German cities? Namely Dresden. Or the numerous "precision" night bombing raids. That is just one example. Don't get me started on the Russian (Allies)

I have done much research in the History of WW2. Each side is just as guilty of war crimes as the other. Only difference is that we were the victors and the victors pass judgment and write the history books.

Like I said before. It was War!

I am in no way condoning the actions of Japanese; or German soldiers for that matter, just putting it into perspective.

Oh yeah... Vietnam (different war, but my point stands)

Enough of the white, liberal guilt please.
