Here, we are fond of hot-rod rifles, I get an odd satisfaction out of shooting the fastest bullets.
My son is at my side for a lot of my varmint hunting, but unfortunately he does not get his licence until later this year, we are both counting the days.
My wife is also showing an interest in the sport of varmints, but she will be easy to satisfy with a second rate caliber, like a 22-250, everyone has to start somewhere..:D
Until then..

Tikka, .204
Ruger .220 Swift
Remington .17 Remington

No hot-rod caliber, but hope to try this 223 Remington and Bushnell 2.5-16 on some varmint.

Same scope as my 204, I love the thing.
223 is next for me, combined with that glass, the possibilities are endless.

Mine is the regular 6500 Elite, is that what you have? I was thinking an Elite Tactical might be good with the target turrets.

I'm not sure about the synthetic stock on this. Always been wood and blue guy, so I may have to look for another rifle.

Yes, an Elite. I have not been able to find anything to dislike about it.
Synthetic either, can't beat it for a varmint rifle. I like the looks of wood, but the synthetic feels good in the cold weather.

Thanks, I like them - and the .17 you have there. Yes to ballistics, couldn't tape it to the wood for fear of a gummy mess...or a mark!
I don't use rear caps anymore, but on my last HMR I put those numbers on the inside of the rear flip up. Kept it hidden until I needed it. However, I don't think I could read them anymore.

Don't understand your statement. A 243 with a 58gn bullet is not much less then a 22-250 and the Ballistics are near right on.

I thought seriously of the 204 and after looking at the ballistics on it I still was not that far in difference. I'm going to wait out the 17 wssm...

17s are a riot, flat and fast. But, they do not do well in the wind, at all. Very fur friendly, if your in to that kind of thing though.
Swift is destructive, much like a light 243 hot round, good for those who like to blow stuff up.
The 204 can be fur friendly, it is fine in the wind and reaches its velocities using a third of the powder a swift or 250 would use. Definatly my favorite. Zero recoil, fast and quiet in comparison.
Both the .17 and the .204 are good on a coyote out to about 300 yards before you have to start thinking about compensation. 275 yards on a full pop can without elevating, and either will exit the can. Ironic, because the .17 will punch a perfect hole through a 3/8" chunk of steel, like a drill press.
A 250 is in our future, but no rush as of yet, no use for one with a Swift.
What I would like, is a good combo gun like a 12 over a .270.. Coyotes beware!
But.. Any rifle is a great rifle.

I am so satisfied with my entry level 22-250 i don't see any reason to switch, As long as i continue to win every competition at my local range and the varmints don't seem to mind being hit with a second rate caliber either.

Ohh - look at the OPs first thread. I was just fooling around = sarcasm. I'm shooting 3,800 fps out of my 22-250 with a 50gr'er, my .243 and 6 mm are loaded heavier for deer but I take them coyote hunting just the same.
