Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting into AR's and I'm looking at different barrel lengths. I really like the short barreled AR's, they just look bad a**. This AR will be used for range fun, only shooting out to 100 yards max and mostly shooting under 50 yards. Just wondering if there are any pros/cons for short barreled AR's as far as function, accuracy, reliability, aftermarket support etc. any input will be appreciated. Thanks

at 100yds you won't notice anything. sounds like you'll be good to go. I had an 11.5" ar-15 and it never gave me any problems. When you get into really short 7.5" barrels they can start being less then reliable at least the dpms kitty kat I tried was....

In the same boat here, i got a DD MK18 since the further i am gonna shoot is 200 yards, might as well have the badass looking one... JP.

From what I have read the shortest you want to go is 11.5 for reliable functioning. I have an almost done 11.5" with an S&J barrel. I will let you know how it shoots once the FSB shows up.

Just curious, as I would totally want to try mine out. Where can you shoot an AR out to 100yrds around Calgary?

I go to the Trochu range when I want to shoot out to 200yrds, it's a public range that you can buy a membership for. It's about 1.5hr from Calgary but I work in red deer so I hit the range after work

I agree with you the shorter AR's look tough. I have an Alberta Tactical in 11.5 inch and it shoots 1" groups out to 50 at TSE, I assume it would be just as good out to 100. Form and function is important.

'Depends on the rifle.

Doesn't much matter which one of my rifles I use - the 14.3' Carbine, or the 8.9' CQB, I can still reach out and get personal at 300 yds with either.

This fellow asks about ar-15's and you go polluting the thread with your euro trash ;) Really though the swiss arms rifles are incredible, I wish I still had one.

I have a 10.5 with an aimpoint pro on it. You will have ZERO issues shooting out to 200y and the short barrel is top notch in the look cool department. Buy and enjoy!

Any properly built, properly set up AR will work fine out to 200m. The trick is the word properly. 10.5" AR's aren't the kind of black magic they used to be (nor are 7.5" when done by someone who knows what they require in the way of buffer weight and port size). A decent 10.5 inch AR with good ammo can be quite surprising all the way out to 300.

my Norinco 10.5 has never had a problem.... my range is 200yrds max so a barrel longer then 10.5 has no advantage... its still restricted... $675 for a SBR CQB, why not !!!
