Ok I have had my NP22 for almost a year. I have been compensating for off sights but I want to try and fix them as its way to low.

I usually shot at 10m but today I tried at 25m. I am way left and shooting so low that compensation requires me to shoot above the target, effectively making it blind shooting. I think I was a good 8"+ low and 4-6 " left at 25m from center.

Has any one successfully been able to adjust windage on the rear sights without an expensive sight tool and is there a way to adjust the elevation either with rear or front site.

I've tried search and the few threads don't mention anything about elevation

Thanks

what do your groups look like at 10m? What is the trigger pull like, I would bet donuts that it's you, not the sights.

You should be able to adjust the rear sight with a punch and patience. Just go slow and you should be fine.

The elevation issues is gonna be trickier. It's very strange that the gun would shoot so exceptionally low at close range. What kind of ammo are you using ?

Either you need to install a higher front sight, or file down the rear. If you've got a caliper I'd measure both first to see if they're both in the same ball park or if one is way off.

On the NP 22 the only adjustment is on the rear sight for windage.
Unfortunately they all seem to be so tight that only a tool will budge them.

Strange though that you are that far off.

What you describe is pretty much the classic signs of a flinch. Not a really bad one but a flinch nonetheless.

Get some snap caps and have a buddy load your mags with the snap caps randomly in with the live rounds. Then have them watch as you shoot. When you drop the hammer on the snap cap the gun should not move so much as a little twitch. It should be just simply a "click" with no motion. If this turns out to not be the case then you need to lose the flinch before you worry about adjusting the sights.

Another sign of even a slight flinch is that your groups at 10m will be 3 or more inches large or at 25m 7 or more inches.

On the other hand if you consistently just go "click" with no muzzle twitch then it's the sights. Windage is easy as you already know. For elevation it's shooting low so that's not too hard. What you need to do is get a shorter front sight blade or file down and spot touch the bluing of the present blade. Use a fine cut file and go slow to remove a little at a time with test shooting between.

taking a file to sights is so, um, old school, new sights is a far better solution. However I have a hard time believing the sights need anything done. The description of the impacts is classic shooter error.

just to clarify I do not have this issue with the .45 1911. my groups are consistent on both platforms (not perfect, but not horrible, i can hold my own against most shooters), just impact is way off and has been for the 500+ rounds put threw it from day one. But im not saying im not at some fault either, I know my weakness and strength.

I was wondering if I can get new sights, but i was under the impression that the NP22 doesn't have a standard sight dove that works with sig sights. I'm going to try to move the sights with a hammer and punch in teh vice. just want to make sure there isn't any surprise involved, like adhesive or needing to add heat

heat will help to drift the rear. I had a hell of a time pounding the sight with hammer and punch, but did get it to move finally

np-22 does not have standard slide cut for sights

file the front if its really shooting low

If you rear sight is centered, it's usually a case of inconsistent grip, trigger press to the left, recoil anticipation and compensation. What bullet weight are you shooting? 115grs?? Most of these combat type guns it would seem,...are set up to throw 124's to point of aim around 10 meters or so. Does it shoot lower than POA at 15 meters with 147's??

My 226 will POI lower than my POA with 115's, so will the M&P 9, the S&W 459, P-38 e.tc. If you were feeding it 9mmNATO, you'd notice you'd be POA at 10 meters and even out to 20 meters. I'd only have to hold up on a Fig 11 or B-27 at 50 meters prone. Base of neck for a center mass scoring hits. 115's shoot way low it seemed everywhere LOL. Just file down the front sight as already stated mentioned by BCRider, and his post pretty much covers your problems with the SIG clone I'm thinking.

Is there another shooter you know that has a good reputation for shooting good small size groups very well with various guns? I'd get someone like that to shoot the gun before you play with the sights. I haven't had an NP22 but I've had two of the Norinco Tokarevs and currently have an NP29. All three shot spot on with the factory sight settings. So that's why I'm thinking that it's you instead of the gun.
